Hi! We are off to Hilton Head in 1 week for a family reunion in a Grand Villa! We have a couple of ?'s...First, we will want to rent bikes. I've checked out
a few HH bike rental sites with what looks like good rates ($27.50 for the week) that I can reserve ahead of time and they will deliver the bikes to us. How does this compare with Disney's rates and is it possible they be sold out of bikes when we get there? Second, we will be checking in on a Monday, how will that affect getting into some of the recreational activities for the week? We are afraid that we may get shut out of some activities if they are already booked solid before we arrive. Do activities generally sell out this time of year or do they add more to accomodate the increased demand? We really have our hearts set on the Kayaking Tour and the Tuesday BBQ. Third, what about beach chair and umbrella rentals at the beach house for use on the beach? Do they have these and what is the cost and how long do you keep them (daily or weekly rental)? Any other tips and suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks! pluto: :donald:

I think you can call now and reserve what you need. Yes, they do sometimes run out of bike rentals but will put you in touch with a local vendor who will deliver. Call the resort directly and check on your questions before you leave home. HH is wonderful...have fun!

Actually this is not as busy a time overall at HH as July. The schools in Atlanta start this week and next week. This area is a HUGE draw for HH. So getting a bike from a vendor is not going to be a problem. I have used several of those vendors in the past with no problem.

I don't know if the situation at the DVC resort is different and it may still be packed.

We rented from a company outside of DVC and it worked great. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name. The only problem was they had a little white basket on the front, as compared with the wire basket (which is a little bigger).

My wife found them on the internet. They are located on Arrow Road. Actually there are two on that street. There is a company on the enterance road to the beach house, but I do not know their prices. In any event, all the companies seemed to have a good supply of bikes during the week.

While we reserved them in advance, we had to get over the hurdle of not having a unit number for them to leave the bikes at. Ultimately, they locked them under the lodge and gave the paperwork to the front desk.

Also, our friend got a flat and the company came out and gave them a new bike.

I would have used DVC, but they seemed to have gotten so expensive.

We just got back from HH, and I wouldn't stress too much about booking activities. We checked in on Monday as well and we had no problem booking the dolphin excursion, and from what I saw, the other activities had plenty of openings as well. As for the BBQ, we received a call on Tuesday morning saying there were still available spots, so if you book it when you arrive on Monday, you will be well ahead of the game. For bikes, if DVC does not have any more to rent there is a place across 278 in Palmetto Dunes that had a TON of bikes out front every day. It is on the way to the beach house, so you can't miss it. Beach chairs and umbrellas are kind of pricey, I believe. We brought our own, but I overhead someone saying it was around $28 a day. If you are driving, I would bring your own, or just stop at Wal-Mart and pick up some cheap chairs and an umbrella if you plan on going to the beach for more than a day. Looking around the beach, I think quite a few people did that because I saw a lot of the same HHI umbrellas that couldn't have been more than $10. Not top of the line, but it got the job done and it was cheaper than renting the chairs and umbrella for the day.
Have fun!
