My husband & I recently escaped to the Hilton Head Island Resort. After Hurricane Sandy, our power returned within 24 hours, but our daughter & her family, who live in NJ, were without powers for days. We offered our house to them & took off heading south. We had a great time there, with wonderful weather. We were just wondering if you need a room key to get into the Beach house, or if the DVC membership card will get you past the gate at Palmetto Dunes, Definitely not looking to break any rules, but wonder if the pool hopping applies here, as well. Noticed that the beach is open to public access after you get past the gate. There are also public restrooms at the Beach House without using your room key to get into the beach house itself. So, to make a long question short, can you get into Palmetto Dunes with your DVC membership card & then into the Beach House with that same card, or do you need a room key?

We only needed our room key to get into the beach house, I even think you needed it to get in from the beach area also.

Yes, you will need a room key to get into the Beach House and a dated Disney parking pass to pass thru the guard gate at Palmetto Dunes.

The DVC membership won't help for either requirement. Unless you have some other means of PD beach access (ie-local property owner) you must be a guest staying at the HH resort for access to the beach. Those with access thru the guard gate can still park at the beach house and enjoy the beach since that is a public beach access area. There are public rest rooms, showers and even access to the Disney snack bar but no physical access to the Beach House itself.

You can certainly walk thru the resort and maybe even see an unoccupied villa, but access to the Beach House is only for resort guests (members or otherwise).
