We have never stayed in a 1 bedroom and have been nervous about the main building ever since I booked it.

But over time I have warmed up to the idea of using the shuttle to get back and forth to the beach instead of trying to park...

Should I Request upper floor or a lower one?

Or should I go with a near pool request just to be closer to things?

Totally Torn!

There are 21 1BR villas at the resort. 16 are located in the main building (bldgs 11/12) and the other 5 are beneath a GV in Buildings 16,18,19,28 and 30. There are no 1BR villas located around the pool and the resort is small enough that nothing is too far from anything.

There are no ground level villas at the resort as all buildings are raised due to building code for flooding. The 1BRs in the Live Oak Lodge (11/12) are located on floors 1,2,3 and those in the other buildings are all on the first level of those buildings.

Enjoy your stay! :)

We have stayed quite a few times in the one bedrooms and have enjoyed their views especially when facing the canal of the marsh. In that canal we have enjoyed the view of turtles, jumping fish, and dolphins slapping their tails against the surf's edge to get food, it is quite a sight!

Now I'm not sure what being in the main lodge has to do with taking the shuttle?? We always drive over just because we have so much beach stuff. There is parking right underneath the main building and the elevator down makes it an easy quick trip to load up.

We usually stay in 1BR at HHI, and have always been in the main building.
My only must-have request is a marsh view - I don't really care what building I'm in, as long as I can see the water from the deck!
The only downside to the main building was the walk to the resort pool and the dock - but even that is not too far.

We also have stayed in many 1 BRs. I'd request an upper floor-if you get that, you'll be guaranteed to either be in the Main Lodge or the attached building next to it. And I agree with MinnieGi's observations about the canal view with the fish jumping, dolphins slapping their tails, and turtles. And being bird watchers, it's a great view for that too! Don't worry about being near the pool-the resort's pretty small and you're close to the pool from anywhere.
