Hilton Head lovers....

We just got back yesterday from a great week at Hilton Head! Mike was still there and was great with the kids at the campfire program! Christopher the naturalist had his last week at the resort. He is going to the Santa Barbara zoo in California.

What is the weather like there at the end of March (this week is our traditional spring break week).

Is it warm enough this week to swim in the pool? It is freezing up here in Indiana this week! A trip to HHI for spring break sometime would be a nice escape from the cold.

Tanya-
I think the price to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella was $25 for the day- if you decide before the end of the day that you want to rent them again for the next day, it's only $16 for the next day.

I think there is also a weekly rate, which works out to less $ per day, but you run the risk of bad weather, other plans, etc.

Thanks everybody for your response about the beach chairs and stuff!...

Hey Jackie -- I see your location says "Hamptons"... I would like to be there too! :teeth:

Now if some of you experts can come up with some good restaurants for me!!!!!!! Thanks!

The tuesday night BBQ at the pool sounds great. Will they still have this during the last week of August?. This is the first week that starts the new points (lower). I know that the fireworks will stop before this week, but sure would like the BBQ.

Anybody been there that week that can help?

My daughter LOVES the Disney Discovery Club-my son will be old enough this year so I hope that he likes it, too.
I like that they start it at age 3.

We love all the activities with B'Lou
The shrimp boil and BBQ

Oh, I forgot-Shannon Tanner. The kids adore his shows, and DH and I like them too.
We bought his CD and video last time and the kids listen to/watch it often.
I think that's our favorite part of Hilton Head outside the resort

We like to go get ice cream at Coligny

I love to just sit around by the pool

We like to walk at Shelter Cove

Eat outside at Scott's Fish Market(I think that's the name of it)

Play miniature golf

Looking for an activity sheet with prices for HHI. I've called DVC at HHI 3 times and they continually say they will fax it to me. I have yet to receive it. I have an anxious 12 yr. old earning and saving money to do some special activities "on his own" and wants to know how much $$$$ he'll need. I have a small list they gave me over the phone:
Dolphin cruise $30
Kayaking $17.50 (junior)
crab nets $5.00
Fishing pole rental $7 / day
crafts average $10-15

Any other items would be much appreciated. We are going over Memorial weekend. Thanks!

Hi Bethy G,

Just got back yesterday from our first visit. PM me your fax number (if you have access to one) and I'll send you off the schedule of all the activities. The ones that cost money are marked.

We did the Dolphin Cruise with Captain Scott and it was fantastic. On Wednesday (Member Day) you get 10% off so we paid $27 pp (rather than $30). You get 2 hours with Capt. Scott (and we got his dog Woody too) and he is an excellent guide. We saw other boats out there crammed with people who didn't get nearly as close to the dolphins. We later found out they paid $20 a head, in my opinion its worth it to splurge the extra $7 or $10 because you only have a max of 6 people. Don't forget to bring water and snacks!

Bike rentals this past week were $50 for the first two bikes and $10 for each additional bike for our 1 week length of stay. If you decide to rent for the day, I think its $16 per bike or $10 per half day (4hrs). We thought renting the bikes for the week was a great bargain (3 bikes @ $60 divided by 6 days was $10 per day for all 3 bikes). There are also these really neat 3 wheelers that look like go-carts on the beach that I would think your 12 yr old would like but I don't know how much.

Enjoy!

For the dolphin cruise -- what is the age limit on that? Our youngest will be 5 and can swim like a fish, but is that old enough? Not looking to push any limits -- only wanna do what's safe! :) And another question -- for someone who gets motion sick in a car, how will the boat ride for the dolphins feel? I have been on smaller boats before and felt fine -- honestly, it's the bigger boats that get to me. I think ti's a perspective thing (kinda like looking out of the window in your car versus sitting in the back of the van looking past the seats and people and THEN through the windshield -- seeing all that stationary stuff while moving just makes me ILL... :crazy2: ) My eldest gets carsick occasionally, and I can just see it now -- we all go out there and he's chumming the water the entire time... Ewwww, poor kid.

Also -- during the summer, what night is usually "Kid's Night Out" and how much is that per head?

THanks for any info!

Your 5-year-old should be fine on the dolphin cruise. All the kids will have to wear life jackets, but you probably wouldn't want it any other way!

I am extremely prone to motion sickness and have never had a problem with the dolphin cruise. Your time is pretty much limited to Broad Creek, rather than actually out in the ocean, so it's very tame. You will also have the opportunity to see some very pricey real estate along the way. ;)

This week, there are "kids' night out" programs on Monday and Thursday. But don't carve anything into stone based on what's offered now. About the only thing that is "for sure" is that it will NOT be on Tuesday, because that's the fireworks night and the resort always has the family BBQ/pool party that night.

Right now, the "kids night out" (ages 5-12) AND the "teen night out" (for those 13 and up) are both $20 per person for members. For the "kids", they usually have pizza and watch a movie at Community Hall; the teens usually go out to a movie and have pizza.

:wave2:

I am sooooooooo excited I cant wait! I think this year we will rent bikes, even though last June was blistering hot....

We just got back from HHI on Sunday (4-17) and I must say, we fell in love, children included.
We had such a wonderful time. It was a little chilly thurs-sat, but the kids were still able to swim b/k of the heated pools and b/k the wind was blocked, we enjoyed sitting along the pool.
We ate at San Miguels (very good, we ate there again our last night) and we ate at Old Oyster Factory. Hate to say this, but it is not on our must do list for the next time. We just weren't very impressed with the food. But, we are comparing it to one of all time favorite places at Wrightsville beach.
We rented bikes (a must!) We had so much fun just riding to the beach and stopping at places along the way.
Went to South Beach and Salty Dog Cafe. That was fun and just wish we would have had a little more time to shop (well, I do anyway).

I'll do that the next time.

We did the campfire and listened to the Beach Boys play while at the campfire who were playing at Shelter Cove.
Loved the cast members for the campfire. Mike was awesome. So was the girl, but I don't know her name.

Did the magic show with B'lou. That's a must also.

We just had such a wonderful time. I'm just trying to figure out when we can go back!

I may just have to eventually add on points at HHI (our home resort is BWV)!!!!

reesecup - Thank you for the nice review. I am glad you had a good experience. We will arrive on 4/30 and my question for you, what if any marsh or beach programs did they have?

Dobelover,
I don't really know of the marsh or beach activities. I'm sure those will pick up once it gets a little warmer.

You can go deep sea fishing from the harbor right at the resort, I think...If I'm wrong someone let me know.

I forgot to mention the cam at Salty Dog. It's been mentioned before, but it was a lot of fun.

Also, we were going to do the dolphin cruise, but decided to save it for the next time. We didn't want to try to fit everything in, in three days. Plus, that gives us something to look forward to the next time. We also want to fish and go crabbing and we took our kites but never flew them on the beach, and there are many, many more things that we didn't get to.
Oh, and the volleyball net at the pool is very nice. I didn't get in the pool. I was going to, but it got crowded once I decided. The hubbie and kids had a good time with it though.

Oh, and we also enjoyed looking for alligators in the fresh water ponds on our way to Salty Dog. Saw one sunbathing very close to a golfer. Don't know if he knew he was there or not (the golfer; I'm sure the alligator wouldn't care, ha).

Oh, and we ate breakfast one morning at Stacks and really liked it. My daughter cried several times in the car on the way home b/k she didn't want to leave (just a sad, 11-yr-old cry).... now, that's a good vacation!!!

klh, what do you need help on? I'll try.

The poolside BBQ usually coincides with the fireworks. So if the fireworks are done for the season, I am pretty sure that the BBQ will be too. :sad2:

You will probably still be able to get the shrimp boil, though!
