Hilton Head is under a Tornado Watch!?!?!

DH just called to inform me of this. We are leaving for there on the 16th. Are tornadoes common this time of year?

Anytime we get big thunderstorms in the south.....tornadoes are common. I wouldn't stress about it if I were you until closer to time.

Thanks. I get nervous because we don't have a good track record...2003 vacation my mom broke both her feet AND the AC in our house broke, so we went home early. Went to Maine in 2005 and it RAINED RAINED RAINED and RAINED some more. Last year we had to postpone trip due to our dog having a staph nasal infection...

Right now there is alot of wild weather going on in the south. It's been pretty warm the past couple of days and a cold front is passing through and thats when you get the crazy weather. Just keep watching or listening for weather updates and if they see hit the dirt I would advise it. Have a great trip

Plus your vacation isn't for a few weeks. There is a saying here in South Carolina:
You don't like the weather? Wait five minutes, it will change.
Don't worry about it. You really don't need to be concerned unless they say there is a tornado warning. That means one has been spotted. Even then, it is very rare. I hear watches all the time but rarely hear about warnings. Watch just means conditions could make a tornado.

Yep weather has been crazy down here twice this week. We had a Tornado Warning Saturday (and actually saw the funnel, but it never touched down here). Then this morning we were under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and had hail. We are expecting round 3 this afternoon.

It's pretty common down here this time of year.
