Soon after I booked my June resv for HH, I began getting calls that showed on the caller ID as 'Hilton Head Hospitality'. I ignored them assuming they were calling to schedule a time share visit.

Today I answered the call and spoke with a very nice lady named Heather who was offering a coupon package for $40 for activities on the island. (i.e; boat cruises, kayak & bike rentals, light house admission). My husband is always the skeptic of those type of things, so I used the excuse that we were going to WDW over the holidays and I really haven't had a chance to even research what we might want to do at HH (which is the truth). Heather understood and noted the dates of our stay and said she'd get back to me after the holidays.

Just wondering if anyone has purchased an outside package like this or is it better to just stay with Disney and use the member discounts offered?

I've never heard of this. And we've been to HHI many times, always with Disney. Had you booked your reservations thru MS? I thought they didn't release your information to anyone else. I'd really wonder how this "Hilton Head Hospitality" got your name and phone #. I wouldn't recommend them.

When you get to HHI be sure to pick up some of the area guides that have coupons and those books are free. We used CRO for a HHI trip last month. We were not contacted by any outside organization.

When you look at the books, you notice that Disney's charge for some of the activities offered are quite a bit more than what's available on the "outside."

This phone call was because I had visited the website.
Guess I should have clarified that.. sorry. It was a follow up call from a website that I had requested information from. She even said that I had indicated that I'd already booked lodging, so I knew I had given that information out. I had gotten a card in the mail saying the guide book for '09was out of stock, but the '10 publication would be out soon (which is really what I want anyway).
It sounds like many of the same activities that Disney talks about on their site, so that's why I was curious if there were better deals out there. I still want the vacation planning book, but just as a follow, today I got a card in the mail regarding villa rentals, so I imagine the junk mail has only just begun.

I wouldn't buy this.

In the very least, ask for a detailed list of what the coupons are (vendors, discount amount and exclusions). Unless something is very specific and has a great value you wouldn't get your money out of it. Plus, there are discounts out there in general....ie. early bird restaurant discounts, kayak at a certain time of day discounts, etc. And plenty of coupon books to be found for free at the grocery store.

One example of a coupon that looks better than it is: "save $5. on miniature golf". Fine print: good for $1.25 off per game, up to 4 people in party.

Finally, there are so many free or nearly free things to do, you don't need to spend a fortune to have a great vacation.

The more I think over this, I realize that this is probably a "donation" for the FREE publication. I've had experiences with this in the past from places like Williamsburg, VA; but all they really wanted was the cost of postage to send the literature.. then send the 'free/guilt' mailing lables to support the cause later.

I thought it interesting that she originally quoted $40, but when I spoke of holding off until the newyear, she said I could get it for $25 if I wanted to book it today. I won't say I'd call this a scam... it costs money to produce those books and keep up website. But a $40 donation when I've never been there before and don't know if any of our group will enjoy the surroundings (thus the need for the planning info...)

I think I will just kindly refuse the offer come the call after the Holidays!

Wait for the next offer to come in: get the book for free if you come to our little timeshare pitch! :rotfl2: Run. Maybe change your phone number too.
