Although we love spring training baseball, we thought we would do something a bit different this year for our school spring break. Has anyone been to Hilton Head in Mid March. I think our break is maybe Mar 12-19 or something like that?

We have a 9 year old daughter and would like a vacation that is appropriate for her.
Thanks

HH is a wonderful family destination.

In mid-March, the temperatures will generally range from the mid 60's to the low 80's. the ocean temps will be too cool for most to enjoy, but the resort pools are heated.

There are lots of activities available at that time - both at the resort and on the island in general. Most activities available in the summer months are also in full swing at Spring Break. HH is not a typical "Spring Break" destination- it is primarily families, although there are many college students there at that time (mostly collegiate tennis teams- the island coordinates practice matches for these teams on the multitude of courts available all over the island - these matches are a lot of fun to watch if you enjoy tennis.)

Mid March is our traditional time to go-we love going then! I'm glad someone rought up the fact that it's NOT the typical college spring break location. We live near South Padre Island (one of the wildest spring break locations in the US) and I was so afraid of HH being like that before we went the first time. The weather was mild (but not hot enough to swim)-perfect for miniature golf and bike riding. It's very variable, though-the second year we went it was very rainy and very cold and very windy all week. The first year was sunny, nice, no rain. But I heard that the week after we were there in 2003 was cold and rainy. The week after we went in 2004 was warm and sunny. 2005 was half and half that week (no rain Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday morning-then cold, raw, rainy til the day we left). All the activities at the resort were offered, but attendance may be lower (I was the only one on the 3 hour tour of HH). All you miss is the fireworks!

What kinds of activities would there be for a family with a 9 year old daughter? We enjoy going to sporting events (my husband is an athletic director).

I know what you mean about the weather. Last March, we went back and forth between shorts and windpants and rain gear while at WDW.

There are many activities for all ages at HH. At the resort they have a treasure hunt, camp fire, sometimes there are crafts, a magic show (I think), tours of the island, a marsh walk, kids night out and more. Some have a fee others are free. The biggest hit of all with my children is bike riding. The island has miles and miles of bike paths and I believe my kids would just rather take a family bike ride as do just about anything while there. You can rent bikes right at the resort or from various business in town. Outside of the resort there is miniature golf, an indoor arcade/fun place, Harbourtown has the lighthouse and many more activities that a 9yo would enjoy. We have 3 children and honestly, I think they enjoy HH every bit as much as they enjoy WDW.
