We are contemplating splitting our next stay between WDW and HH. The choice is whether we spend Christmas at WDW and New Year's Eve at HH or vice versa. We are leaning toward New Year's Eve at HH. Anyone who has been at HH for one or both holidays: are there Christmas or NYE activities at the resort or on the island that make one holiday a better choice than the other?

We've been to HH for NYE several times. As with most everything else, it's pretty quiet there. :tiptoe:

The years we went, there were activities for the kids and teens, but none for the adults. They had three age groups -- the kids (up to age 12, I think?), the young teens (maybe 12 - 15?) and the older teens. One group met at Big Murggies Den, one at Community Hall, and one at the Beach House.

We always just stayed in (which we do no matter where we are for NYE -- like to stay off the road for amateur night! :drive: ) We would make a nice dinner in the villa (usually Chef Gordon's crabcake recipe!) and have our own toast at midnight on our porch.

This past year, I think they did something a little differently -- had a family-type party at the beach house, but we weren't there for it. :sad2: I know my DS (now 18) really enjoyed the teen parties the years he went.

Would love to go again this year, but with two kids in college, they want to be around home to spend time with their friends, and DH and I want to make sure we still have a house standing, so we're staying here, too. party:

Thanks for the info. We were talking about planning to stay in for NYE, too, but were wondering if there might be other choices. Thanks for the info. Other opinions or information, anybody?

Bump! :) Any other opinions or experiences??

We have spent 2 NYE's (last year the most recent) at HHI resort on our journey from OKW stay to Boston. We stayed in made dinner and watched football, great night.

What is the weather during this time?
Is it beach weather or just run from the hopefully heated pool to a dry warm towel? or is it too cold to go swimming at all?

If I were planning, I'd rather spend a quiet Christmas in HH and then go to WDW for NYE with all the fireworks, people, Disney version of Times Square at midnight, etc. It wouldn't be as relaxing before heading back to school/work/life though! YMMV :sunny:

FWIW, I think we have pretty much decided that we are going to do WDW for Christmas and do NYE and New Year's at HH. Should be a great trip regardless of which way we do it!!! :)

We spent one New Year's at HH. There really isn't much going on at all. We found this Italian restaurant where we were able to make a reservation, but when we got there we found that it was a fixed menu for that night, and we didn't like the options on it. But we managed to find an open Outback Steakhouse!
