Hilton Head Beach Question

We are going to Hilton Head for the first time in early August. We hope to spend a lot of time on the beach. Does Disney rent lounges and umbrellas? Does anyone know what the charge is for a DVC member? I know they have them around the pool area for free. We are interested in the beach.

The beach umbrellas and lounge chairs are maintained and rented by the public lifeguards on the beach. I do not know the charges for these.

Many have reported purchasing inexpensive chairs and umbrellas at the local Walmart and "donating" them at departure as a cost effective alternative to renting them.

All of the beaches at HH are public , although public access is limited. The Beach Patrol sets up this equipment around 8:00am and packs it all away at 5:00pm daily. They also rent boogie boards and other similar equipment right on the beach. Some of the beachfront resorts also rent sailboats and waterbikes, but the Disney resort does not offer any rental equipment at the beach.

We rented an umbrella and chairs for the week. It was pricey (around $80 I think) but we didn't have to worry about bringing the chairs and umbrellas back and forth every day which was great.

This is our first year flying (this Saturday ). When we were getting ready, we had this discussion about chairs. Since we already had them along with the boogie boards, DH went to our local UPS store and shipped ours down to the resort. They should be waiting for us when we arrive.

We went around and around trying to decide whether to rent chairs/umbrella or not. The shade from the umbrella is nice, the chairs are nice. But, when the tide is out, it's a LONG way from the water. The guards have no problem with people moving a chair down to the water, but that nice umbrella you've paid for stays right where the guard set it up in the morning. To me, it kind of defeats the purpose.

Low tide and high tide are approximately every 6 hours at HH. So, if you arrive in the morning and it's low tide, the chairs and umbrellas will be a good distance from the water. 6 hours later, the water will be a lot closer to the chairs. If you hang around longer and the tide starts going out, the water will then again be farther from the original point. Part of your decision may be based on how you plan on using the beach. All day, 1/2 days or just a couple of hours.

I think we're planning on donating ours at the end of our stay. The boogie boards, if in good shape, will get sent back home (or brought) but after a couple of seasons, the chairs really start to show the effects of the salt water.

We were just there in June. The daily cost of 2 beach chairs and the umbrella was $25. If you rented them after 12 or 1pm the cost went down to $17 per day.

I noticed several beach chairs and umbrellas locked with a chain in the parking garage... I guess people buy them, and lock them up for the week...

During our trip July 10 - 15, the charge was $28.00 the first day for an umbrella and two chairs, and $17.00 for each day after, as long as you made the reservation and paid the total amount due when you first reserved. If you waited, it was another $28.00 for the day. We ended up paying for three days, because we weren't sure we'd be at the beach each day. So we could have paid 28+17+17+17 (79.00 total), but we paid 28+28+28 (84.00 total), a difference of five bucks. We were on the beach on days 1, 3 and 4, so we'd have had to pay for each of four days in the first case scenario, even though we didn't use them on the 2nd day. Does this make any sense?
