As a DVC member, if I were to drive thru Hilton Head, could I get onto the Hilton Head Resort Beach by only showing my DVC card and not staying at the resort?

You will need a parking pass from HHI resort to get thru the gate to the Beach House. They do stop you. If they did let you in, there is no one checking parking at the Beach House and you can walk onto the beach, but you need a key to get to the beach house bathrooms, pool or restaurant. I think it is not really feasible.

We just came back from HHI last week. At the Beach House there was no one checking you to get in. In fact, to get to the pool area from the beach, you did not even need your room key. The gate was always wide open, which really suprised me????

Someone recently posted that Disney maintains bathrooms for the general public and that there is a beach entrance for the general public who park in the lot there.

I'll find out this October:earsboy:

This is true, only it's not the general public who are allowed to park there. You have to get past the Palmetto Dunes guard in order to get to the lot. So, if you're renting a villa in Palmetto Dunes, you definitely can park in the lot and get to the beach. You just can't get to the pool and beach house. If you're staying somewhere other than Palmetto Dunes, you will not be able to drive to the beach house parking lot.

I also wanted to add - that the Palmetto Dunes shuttle will take you back to the resort if needed. My nieces did this last week.

Hmmm, now THAT brings up another interesting question...Do you have to show some type of ID proving that you're staying in Palmetto Dunes in order to ride the Palmetto Dunes Buggy?

If not, what's to keep someone (anyone) from boarding it at by the statue of Neptune and taking it to the beach? (Not that anyone would possibly do anything like this, but asking theoretically...;) )

if I were to drive thru Hilton Head,

Are you staying on the Island or just passing through on your way down I95?

Just to let you know, it is can be about an hour from I95 one way, and there is only one way in and out onto the Island. So you could not do a drive by the coast type tour. You would have to come back the way you came in. As for the beach house, you can drive to the Marriott and park because they do not hit the private area. I do not know what the Marriott parking policy is, but they are sure to have some visiting spaces for their restaurants. Walk down to the beach and turn right. The beach house is 2 "doors" up. It is hard to see because of the dunes. The staff at the beach house will check ID and ask non guest, (regardless if they are DVC or not) to leave.
