First of all, let me say that I hope everyone who was vacationing at Hilton Head and were evacuated made it out safe and sound, and that the cast members who make a stay at Hilton Head magical are all well, too.

I am interested in the day(s) leading up to Matthew, how was it handled, when were guests told to leave, and if you were two days into a week's stay, are you totally out of points (if you didn't get the trip insurance) or is there any compensation? Personally I'd just take the loss of points but I was just wondering about it.

Secondly, I'm anxious to see photos once the storm has cleared to see how the Disney property held up. I know we'll see images from Hilton Head on the news and in the papers over the next few days but once guests are allowed in, I'm interested to see how things are.

The DVC hurricane policy allows refund of points unused. I have heard folks having points banked into 2017 even though they expire in 2016 because the hurricane is preventing them from using the points. That is pretty nice IMO.

No one was permitted to remain on the island so all DVC cast members had to evacuate like everyone else. Officials are going over the island now. The bridge still has to be approved as safe before they will allow owners back on the island too.

We were evacuated the day before our scheduled checkout. We were in a studio that cost 14 points. We did not have trip insurance. Our points were placed back into our account as if they were never used. Well, actually they were placed in holding, and I had to call to have them moved out. But 7 of those points were banked 2015 points, and I was told that they could not be banked again. So we needed to use them before May 31, 2017. So basically, we got our points back, but there were no exceptions made on how they would need to be used. We booked a couple of nights right before Christmas since that was all that was available during our breaks from work.

Thank you for the replies and the link to the article. We hadn't looked at hurricane policies for DVC so I'm glad to hear that they are fair.
