Can anyone tell me what are the more popular activities at the resort? Are there any not to be missed or ones we will need to sign up for as soon as we arrive?

What about off the resort?

Thanks so much!

Depending on the day and time of year, getting your bikes first thing is important if you want to rent them from the resort. We got a lot of use out of the bikes and the rental is very cheap for a family plan.

Thanks. What would be our best bet for renting bikes if we'll only need them for 3 to 4 days?

Are helmets required for the adults on the island?

Do we need to bring chain locks?

The resort is very convenient for rentals. Cost is pretty much the same even if you rent outside the resort (and they will deliver the bikes if you rent off-site as I recall). If you are going to use the bikes more than one day, I think the weekly/length of stay rental is still your best bet. I don't think helmets are required by law, but we brought our own and wore them. They also provide them as part of the rental if you wish. They also provide bike locks as part of the rental.

The unbirthday party needs to be signed up for the DAY OF.. the rest of the things you can sign up for all week. The Marsh walk for the kids fills up kind of fast...

We check in, drop the bags and head over to sign up for things...

We like the activities where they do a project. Birdhouse painting we went on a bird watch where they made their binoculars and then made bird feeders (covered pinecones with peanut butter and rolled in birdseed) and there was a shark expert and they made shark tooth necklaces!:thumbsup2 And the kids had a BLAST at Kids Night Out (we did too!;) )

I really want to try Gyataku (or however it is spelled;) ) and the Unbirthday Party, but for some reason I am thinking they are usually done on Saturdays and we are never there then.:guilty:

Also, Shadow's Tales and HOPEFULLY we will see Shadow!:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Like B'Lou Crabbe's Magic In The Den.:)

There was the Low Country Shrimp Boil that was fun but it was sooooo cold the night we were there so we are bundling up! :)

I would like to rent bikes but not sure if we will. Gotta check the weather because I know we will end up spending so much time poolside if its nice!:)

I've heard the Dolphin excursion is well worth the time and money. We'll be doing it.

I've gone on the Dolphin Excursion and really enjoyed it. However, for me, nothing can compare to the thrill of seeing dolphins "in the wild", that is, not on a planned excursion, but in the waters around the resort. If you go up by the lodge at sunrise or in back of the lodge at sunset, also on the other side, by the marina, at sunset (actually we saw them playing among the moored boats after dark, that's really cool! But it involves lots of sitting and "chillin'", waiting for them to show up.

That is cool... Thanks for the info :thumbsup2

Yikes! We'll be skipping birdhouse painting then cause my DD is highly allergic to peanuts!

That also kinda bums me out, I hope they clean down the tables really good afterwards. My DD has had several skin contact reactions. :(

Pirates of the Calibogue is not to be missed! Sign up when you arrive.

Regards

If I remember, they had newspaper or a paper plate down. I wrote that just incase anyone reading this had allergies with peanuts so you knew before signing up.

Ya, I call that the dreaded bird feeder. :rotfl:

I'm glad to know they put newspaper down. Any time I hear about a lot of kids with peanut butter I feel anxietal! :scared:

Disney's HHI is located on Longview Island that sits in Broad Creek which in turn runs from Calibogue Sound, the estuary situated just above the "toe" of HHI. Without giving too much away, PotC is a scavanger/treasure hunt throughout Longview Island in which participants are divided into teams to hunt for clues and keys to a buried treasure somewhere on the island. The antics of the recreation staff who run the activity are as enjoyable as the activity itself.

I have a pdf from Oct of 2005 of the resort activities calendar that I will post later. For now, here's my contribution of off-resort activities:

Outside Hilton Head has various fishing, doplphin watching, kayak, and nature tours:

The Coastal Discovery Museum looks like fun (haven't been yet). They have various programs, including turtle walks:

Here's a web site that outlines island activities:
http://www.hhisleinfo.com/what to do.htm

...one close by to the Disney resort is:
"Shelter Cove attracts many visitors on Tuesday nights June 2 to August 21 (2007) from 6:30 to 9:30 PM for fireworks, food, crafts and entertainment for kids. From June5 to August 21 Tuesday activities include the Summer Jams concerts at the Shelter Cove Community Park at 6:30 PM. Plan to walk a considerable distance to parking if you don't get there early. There are some interesting shops with unique offerings to keep the adults entertained. Free. 843-785-1106."

Sea Pines Resort is where you'll find the Harbour Town lighthouse, among shopping, restaraunts, and other recreational activities. I believe there is a fee ($5) to enter the resort.

I hope this helps!

You can take a boat trip from Savannah which launches from near the Harbour Town lighthouse.

We just became DVC members this month and hope to go to HH this fall. Are there activities for preschoolers?

The Un-Birthday Party is great for preschoolers (no adults "allowed" until after the un-birthday cake...you'll understand why).

There are also a variety of science/conservation activities that change depending on the season. My 3-year-old loved learning about ladybugs and sea turtles.

Shadow's Tales are for all ages, although I remember a thread awhile back where the OP was offended by something B'Lou Crabbe, the island's resident story teller, said or did.

Arts & Crafts usually includes at least one activity per day for the preschool age kids, even though most are geared towards the elementary age ones.

If you ever happen to make it during the spring & summer months (April-August), be sure to make a trek across the harbour to hear Shannon Tanner perform. His show is enjoyable for all ages, but he always invites the kids on stage to perform with him.
