I will be calling MS this week to attempt to book HH at 7mos for June. All along I've been thinking 2br for 6nights, which means borrowing 20pts from '11.
Now I'm thinking as a precaution (come what may in the new year) that maybe I should just book 5 nights (without borrowing) if I should need to cancel...

This would be our first time visiting HH.. so I'm asking feedback from the people who visit frequently and love it. If I only book 5 nights, will I have regrets or is that enough time to feel like we've gotten the full experience of the resort/island? (plus adding in an 11 hour drive each way)...

I'd try to reserve 5 weeknights and also add one weekend cash night (the 25% member discount will likely be available) to save on the points. Weekend night points are really costly so you'll liley find the cash rental to be bargain. They will link the point and cash nights together and no payment will be due until arrival.

Enjoy! :)

You could always book 5 nights and book the 6th night on cash if available.
I dont mind borrowing so I just book what I want and borrow what I need.:goodvibes
Summers are busy at HHI, so you may not be able to change your mind later.

Thank you both for that suggestion. That sounds like a plan. I never think to use the cash option since it's never been an issue; however the "come what may" I refer to is my DD will be applying for the college program for Fall'10 and if she doesn't get in then, try again for Spring'11, so where those few points are allocated could be important once we know what's happening there...

We book 5 nights and then do a resort bid on hotwire for another night or 2

I think you will be fine with 5 nights. We always drive down the day before and check-in a hotel on the island. We then check-in at HHI around 10:00 a.m. the next day. The rooms aren't always available, but you can still have access to the pool and beach area until the room is ready.

Although 6 nights is really wonderful we have done a 5 night stay but stretched our vacation by doing the following:

-drive 12 hours the day before our Sun. check and stay that first night at Hampton Inn on HHI. (DH travels so he has HHonors points)

-Check in early on Sunday. Although we know our room won't be ready, you can enjoy the resort right away!! We always head over to the beach house and spend the morning/early afternoon there and on HHI's wonderful beach.

-We check out Friday am, but again go to the beach house for a great last morning/early afternoon beach day. We usually eat our lunch there and then change there before we get on our way. We break our drive up on the way back and only go half way and again stay at Hampton with DH's points.

So even though we stayed the 5 nights we get 6 days of fun!!

Others have mentioned the cash option too which sounds like a good deal too. Either way we never want to leave and the longer the better IMHO!

I would suggest the same - 5 nights on points - 1 night on cash. I always want one more day at HH - then again - I almost always want one more day no matter where I go on vacation! HH is a great resort, my kids and I love it as much as WDW!

Just so I have some idea of what to tell DH, can someone give me a rough estimate of what we're talking for a 2bdrm on cash with the discount?

Also, if I book it this way now (without borrowing), is it possible to switch the cash night to points, should we decide later that we won't need to conserve the extra points for another time?
