Hilton Anaheim vs. Hojo

Currently have a reservation for two nights at Hojo in September. I need another two nights and found a good deal at the Hilton Anaheim. Not crazy about changing hotels in the middle though. Has anyone experience with both properties and could let me know how they compare? The Hilton is quite a bit less per night.

We have stayed at the Hilton once and at Hojo once. While Hojo is closer, I would certainly choose the Hilton. The property is newer and 4 star. We had really good service there, and a room with a lovely view of DL... perfect for fireworks viewing. Both hotels have a splash/kiddie area in their pools. Especially if the Hilton costs less, that would be my choice.

Note: our room at Hojo was clean, but we personally did not like the beds (too soft for our taste) and the noise from the freeway was awful. That was the worst night's sleep we've ever had in Anaheim. Obviously, YMMV, but for us, the choice between those 2 hotels would be a no brainer.

I wouldn't want to change hotels in the middle of the visit either.

Hojos is great for families, but it isn't really in the same league as the Hilton. It doesn't try to be in the same league--it is just a regular family-ish hotel (interior halls, not outdoor walkways to rooms) within walking distance to Disneyland. It is actually a very quiet hotel, as long as you book into one of the deluxe or premium rooms. They cost a bit more, but it really is one of the most important elements for staying at Hojos.

Hilton is a "Hotel" experience. You can walk to the parks, but it is a long walk--like about 1 mile. Anaheim Rapid Transit stops there, so that is what many people take. It is a large, modern, convention style hotel with a Starbucks in the lobby and a food court on one floor.

If you could get all your nights at Hojos then I would say go for that just to make it easier to get to and from the parks, but if you can't--then there is no way it is worth changing in the middle of your stay for it.

I agree with the previous posters. It's a long walk, for sure. If you don't mind taking the ART and/or don't mind a long walk, it's a very nice hotel.

The hotel does have it's own route (Route 4) for the ART, which is kind of nice. It doesn't stop at any other hotels, so it should be on time. You might want to factor in the ART passes in your budgeting, though, I don't know how many people you have in your group, but if you have 4, the ART passes could add another $40 of expense, depending on how long you're staying.

I think you need to decide what is the top priority for you: close walking distance, or "upscale" hotel. If it's closeness, it's going to be the Hojo. If it's a more upscale experience, then the Hilton is probably your best bet.

I've stayed at both HOJO's and the Hilton Anaheim, and while the rooms are larger at HOJO's, we also liked the Hilton Anaheim. Found the walk to be 15 to 20 mins, but more than doable if you like walking. It's a really nice hotel, and there's a 7-11 on the corner of Katella and S. Harbor blvd that you can get cheap water and snacks at that is onroute to the parks.

I have stayed at both.
Personally I prefer the HOJO, for the balcony's and beautiful grounds, to the cold hotel feel of the Hilton. Also - the Hilton charges a high charge for parking, and the HoJo does not, in case you are driving, and we are....

The HoJO, is a retro feel hotel, that feels homey, I would choose it over the Hilton anytime.

Per HydroGuy's tips, I'd stick to the HoJo for its shorter walking distance (assuming you don't plan to spend a lot of time at the Hilton and are ok with simple but clean accommodations). A 20 minute walk or a long wait for a shuttle is just not worth it at the end of a long day.

We have stayed at both and prefer Hojo hands down. The walk is shorter & the rooms are bigger. As was mentioned, the parking is also free at Hojo and not at the Hilton. They both have the kids splash area, but the do not compare. We did not like the pool area at Hilton at all. The other thing about the Hilton is, because it is a hotel, the elevator can take forever. We stayed on the top floor which was great for the view, but could take 20 minutes to get all the way down, when it stopped on every floor. Same going up at night.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. Still not sure though...

I do like the retro-look of Hojo better but not sure it is worth paying twice as much (and this is the cheapest room at Hojo). We probably won't have a car so parking fees aren't an issue. Would prefer being closer but the distance isn't a deal breaker either.

Loking at the price it does seem the Hilton Anaheim would be better...

The Hilton, a 4-star resort with new rooms and pool complex,is cheaper than a 2 star motel? I'd go for the Hilton.

I hate changing hotels...I am currently living out of a suitcase in India, but you know what? I am still alive; I just wouldn't completely unpack at the Hojo so it is easier to change hotels. The Hilton was about a 15 minute walk for us (20 somethings with no kids) but it wasn't bad at all.

Is there anyway to stay at the Hilton the entire time?

I have stayed at the Hilton and we are staying there again for our upcoming trip. I found the Disney View room very spacious and the walk really didn't seem long at all. Again, I haven't stayed at both; but I didn't find anything objectionable about the walk or the elevator traffic during our stay.
