Hilo Excursions

For those that did hilo excursions, what were the best ones? I know the volcano national park is a popular one. However did anyone visit the orchid nursery or the panaewa zoo as well? I'm debating about doing an excursion with a zoo in it because I feel like I can visit zoo's in my local area. I understand that this one is advertising as the only tropical zoo in the us, but still did you feel like it was worth your time? My family stopped and saw the zoo in Honolulu and it was such a disappointment being so small. So I'm wondering if this would be a similar experience.

Furthermore, if anyone did the volcano national park jr ranger's excursion, was it really more geared towards children?
