I am wondering, however, if Obama takes Richardson as his running mate, which I think he should, he could possibly win Texas ,Florida, California, New York. I beleive that they together would capture over 75 % of the Hispanic vote. Ohio and Penn at that point would be able to go red.
So then he would just have to worry about the white working class, and a smaller percentage of Catholics, because most Hispanics are Catholic.

The ULTIMAT Political ploy!!!!:sad2:

If Obama wants even a chance of winning, he will have to pick someone Hillary would have picked.:thumbsup2

I did see it, but I thought it was Hillary as seen through Obama supporters eyes.:confused3 But I will agree it was done not very funny.
It takes my PC eons to load video. What was the skit about?

Basically listing the reasons why she should be the nom -

1) Because she is a sore loser
2) Because her supporters are racist and would never vote for a black man.
There was a third one I believe but honestly after the second point I was too focused on WTH?? to really follow. And now I can't get the video to load either. I wonder if it is getting too much traffic?

ETA: 3) That she is completely lacking in ethics and will do anything to win.

I am sure that people are gonna jump here and say that it was just satire for the things that have been going on in the press. Well - I am not sure if it was poorly written or badly performed - but it did not come across as satirical AT ALL!

Honestly - I think I am going to vote Green this year. This is the 10 key values that they list on their platform page.

1. GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY

Every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affect his or her life and should not be subject to the will of another. Therefore, we will work to increase public participation at every level of government and to ensure that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect them. We will also work to create new types of political organizations which expand the process of participatory democracy by directly including citizens in the decision-making process.

2. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law.

3. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM

Human societies must operate with the understanding that we are part of nature, not separate from nature.
We must maintain an ecological balance and live within the ecological and resource limits of our communities and our planet. We support a sustainable society which utilizes resources in such a way that future generations will benefit and not suffer from the practices of our generation. To this end we must practice agriculture which replenishes the soil; move to an energy efficient economy; and live in ways that respect the integrity of natural systems.

4. NON-VIOLENCE

It is essential that we develop effective alternatives to society's current patterns of violence. We will work to demilitarize, and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, without being naive about the intentions of other governments.
We recognize the need for self-defense and the defense of others who are in helpless situations. We promote non-violent methods to oppose practices and policies with which we disagree, and will guide our actions toward lasting personal, community and global peace.

5. DECENTRALIZATION

Centralization of wealth and power contributes to social and economic injustice, environmental destruction, and militarization. Therefore, we support a restructuring of social, political and economic institutions away from a system which is controlled by and mostly benefits the powerful few, to a democratic, less bureaucratic system. Decision-making should, as much as possible, remain at the individual and local level, while assuring that civil rights are protected for all citizens.

6. COMMUNITY BASED ECONOMICS

Redesign our work structures to encourage employee ownership and workplace democracy. Develop new economic activities and institutions that will allow us to use our new technologies in ways that are humane, freeing, ecological and accountable, and responsive to communities.
Establish some form of basic economic security, open to all.
Move beyond the narrow "job ethic" to new definitions of "work," jobs" and "income" that reflect the changing economy.
Restructure our patterns of income distribution to reflect the wealth created by those outside the formal monetary economy: those who take responsibility for parenting, housekeeping, home gardens, community volunteer work, etc.
Restrict the size and concentrated power of corporations without discouraging superior efficiency or technological innovation.

7. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQUITY

We have inherited a social system based on male domination of politics and economics. We call for the replacement of the cultural ethics of domination and control with more cooperative ways of interacting that respect differences of opinion and gender. Human values such as equity between the sexes, interpersonal responsibility, and honesty must be developed with moral conscience. We should remember that the process that determines our decisions and actions is just as important as achieving the outcome we want.

8. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY

We believe it is important to value cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote the development of respectful relationships across these lines.
We believe that the many diverse elements of society should be reflected in our organizations and decision-making bodies, and we support the leadership of people who have been traditionally closed out of leadership roles. We acknowledge and encourage respect for other life forms than our own and the preservation of biodiversity.

9. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY

We encourage individuals to act to improve their personal well-being and, at the same time, to enhance ecological balance and social harmony. We seek to join with people and organizations around the world to foster peace, economic justice, and the health of the planet.

10. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY

Our actions and policies should be motivated by long-term goals. We seek to protect valuable natural resources, safely disposing of or "unmaking" all waste we create, while developing a sustainable economics that does not depend on continual expansion for survival. We must counterbalance the drive for short-term profits by assuring that economic development, new technologies, and fiscal policies are responsible to future generations who will inherit the results of our actions.
Make the quality of life, rather than open-ended economic growth, the focus of future thinking.

Here is a link to the youtube clip - maybe it will load better for you. I guess I am the only one - but I find it offensive. Of course - the OS love it.

And some of the comments on the NBC site are saying how true it was. If that's the case there is absolutely zero chance that Obama could win this election since 47% of the people voting in the Democratic primary are racists and most of the Republicans are going to vote Republican in the General.

Didn't see it, but that does sound mean and not funny.

It wasn't simply mean, it was the best examply of how the media has treated Hillary this entire campaign all rolled up into a 5 minute skit. It all came together last night in a full body-blow designed to knock her out for good, Compliments of NBC.

This whole racist charge, well, this is how the Republicans have been treated for YEARS by the media and it must suck to be on the receiving end for the first time. It is mean.

post 462 IS THE BIG NEWS HERE!!!
Oh, come on. He said back in 2004 after he won the Senate race that he didn't feel experienced enough to run for President in 2008 AT THE TIME. A lot can change in 4 years. IMO, that clip is really no news at all.

Thank you for shedding some common sense on the situation.

post 462 IS THE BIG NEWS HERE!!!

I haven't paid much attention to Obama, but I watched that clip and am AMAZED his followers are so eager to elect someone who in NOVEMBER of 2004 was elected to the Senate for the first time. At least he had the sense then to realize he knew nothing about RUNNING THE FREE WORLD. It's not been 4 years, just a few months over 3 years since then. But now we're 5 months into 2008, he has spent almost every day since NOVEMBER 2004 running for President of the United States of America and it's fair to ask: When did he find the time to gain the experience necessary to do the job? He is an excellent speaker and has a whole lot of big name Democrats backing him up, but I question why they are so quick to back him. It makes no logical sense. There were so many qualified people in the primary race, but the news media pushed him out there so hard that no one else stood a chance. Why?

I just have to say I am proud of Hillary for staying in this. The odds may be against her, but she is strong and I am glad I support her!

Weren't his exact words ..."to be ready he would have to start now"... that could be interpreted as be ready in terms of political organization...fundraising etc. not experience ....
and he certainly has proved ready in those areas(surprising to some)

just sayin' :thumbsup2

But what experience did he get in that short amount of time????:confused3
Experience takes time, there is no Crash Course in it!

What if he becomes President and in 4 years from now, we are still at war, and there is no NHC. Will you still say, its not 'news"?:confused3

4 years from now, we will still be at war (Afghanistan) most likely. 4 years from now we won't have National Health Care in the way most of us want it, because it's been demonized too successfully and has likley poisoned that well for this generation. We will have a new health care plan in this country that allows everyone that wants it to have coverage, and if by some chance we don't it will be the fault of the president as well as the congress, since that is where the legislation has to pass in the first place. The president can suggest legislation and even write it...but he may not recognize it by the time it gets back to his desk.

But if John McCain is elected, make no mistake about it: we will still be at war in Iraq, and we will still have millions of Americans (probably a higher percentage than we have now, in fact) with no health care coverage. Oh, and we'll also have a Supreme Court that tilts even further to the right than it already does, an education system 4 years further into disrepair, and a national debt that our great grandchildren will still be paying off.

HE did this? Himself? Or did the people that are pushing an inexperienced man do it? He seems to be on a very smooth ride, just showing up and giving pretty speeches.

Excellent post, and I agree with everything except for the "excellent speaker part. He is a wonderful speaker when he has a pre-made speech. He's not very good when he has to think on his feet. This was show clearly on the debates and other moments when he had to talk spontaneously.

BO may have changed his mind afterwards, but that's a valid reason why many of us don't support him
