Oh, my...Duckfan, I agree this deserves its own thread. After all the OS always whine that they want to talk about the "issues"

I can't believe this is happening....the two choices we have. How could this happen? This is like a nightmare....
Remember how good it all looked when it all started? We seemed to have a glut of wonderful candidates. I'm not as worried as some of you at this point but I also wonder what happened. :confused3
Iran is a clear and present danger. There is no doubt what he has up his sleeves....We need to stop being so politically incorrect to the point where we say...O we cant talk about that never mind do something about it because it will cause Terrorists to hate us more...so shhhhh and maybe they will go away.

If we were not in war or have this problem than I would say fine I'll vote Obama....but in a time of war that is a whole different ball game. Sure need to do a lot of soul searching.....
Clear and present danger? Isn't that what we heard constantly about Iraq? And what a bunch of hoohey that turned out to be. If ever there was a calling wolf scenario, that was it. Now we are supposed to trust the WH this time because they really really mean it this time? Have you ever noticed, btw, that everytime there is a dictator, general, president, king etc that we have real issues with that he is called 'nuts'?

So, the thought it that we better vote for MCain because we "might" have a war? Has anyone ever looked into McCain's career after he was released from NVN? He was in the military the way a flight attendant flyies a 747. Better check out his military credentials before you go marching off to his tune. Or send your kids.

It looked so bright, so promising. The candidates were outstanding, but I *knew* that Hillary was going to win. Edwards or perhaps Obama (didn't know much about him back then) was going to be vice-president, and that would give us a strong chance for 12 or even 16 yrs in the WH.

Back then it seemed so, so real. Now...just dreams, whishful thinking. Now the future looks dark, gloomy, regardless of which of those two wins. :worried:

So I stumbled across an article on Michelle Obama's strategy of healing and wooing the Clinton voters - yet I don't see a real plan to do this.

Do they think that all they have to say is "we're going to heal the party" and it will be accomplished?

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/06/michelle_obamas_strategy_to_wo.html

Michelle Obama's strategy to woo Clinton supporters and shape her role as First Lady: the inside story.

WASHINGTON -- Michelle Obama climbed into her charter jet Friday and flew here from Chicago for lunch and a speech -- I clocked it at seven minutes -- before an influential women's group whose board includes key supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Obama's brief appearance before the National Partnership for Women & Families -- she turned around and flew right back home when she was done -- shows how Obama is shaping her role as a potential first lady and how the Obama campaign is working hard to build bridges to the women who supported Clinton over presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

Michelle Obama's visit came in advance of Clinton and Barack Obama making their first joint appearance in Washington on Thursday before big-money Clinton fund-raisers. They will then stump together Friday.

Michelle Obama's speech to the mostly female audience Friday touched on her experiences as a working woman and mother. It was also about how Obama is shaping what she sees as her role if she becomes first lady. She would take on women's and family affairs as her signature issues, as I reported in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 10.

Those issues are of great interest to the National Partnership for Women & Families, a nonprofit, non-political organization known for its successful crusades for passage of the Family & Medical Leave Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1991 and other legislation on behalf of working women in this country.

The annual luncheon program where Obama spoke was not a political event. The intended main speaker, booked months ago, was Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, the South Side Chicago native who early on endorsed Barack Obama.

I am writing about this through a political lens because every place Michelle Obama goes at this stage of the campaign represents some sort of strategic judgment. And this decision for her to invite herself to drop by this group at this time was politically smart.

Probably the four most important words in Obama's speech were the names of two women she paid tribute to: Ellen Malcolm, the chairwoman of the partnership, and Judith Lichtman, a board member.

Malcolm is also the president of Emily's List -- one of the nation's largest Democratic political networks, which endorsed and campaigned very hard for Clinton. Lichtman goes back years with Clinton and was a senior adviser on the Clinton campaign in charge of women's outreach.

Another board member, Cheryl Mills, was general counsel of the Clinton campaign, which made women's concerns a centerpiece of Clinton's bid.

To help heal wounds left from the hard-fought Democratic primary, Malcolm traveled to the Obama campaign's Chicago headquarters last Monday. She met with campaign manager David Plouffe, deputy manager Steve Hildebrand and senior strategist Anita Dunn to talk about unity.

Debra Ness, the organization's president, told me the campaign called her last week to ask if Obama could come and address the group.

"Certainly we would love to have her come," Ness replied, especially if Obama wanted to talk about their issues. Before Obama's speech Friday, she spent 30 minutes with Ness, emphasizing how important women's issues are to her. Obama then lunched with the group and took the stage to deliver her remarks.

All in all, seven minutes well-spent.

I'm actually starting to get optimistic. :rotfl2: Obama is turning out to be worse then I thought he could be. I figured that he'd at least hold it together till after the convention. But if the next 8 weeks go the way the last two weeks have gone I'm hopeful that the Supers will pull their collective heads out and realize Obama is a horrible candidate.

Don't hold your breath. The Democratic party seems to find ways to lose practically no matter how good their original position. Obama will be the nominee.

BTW, I like your new signature picture.

One can only hope :rotfl:
But Nah, the Supers will still put Obama as the Dem candidate, although he is a horrible candidate.

I still don't think Obama can honestly win the general. I am hoping Obama losing by a landslide ;)

Btw--- I love your picture siggy!!!!! :lmao:

Yeah I realize the chances are slim and none. But it's all the hope I've got for this election! And I'm hanging on to it till the convention is over. Besides, it seems like every single day Obama steps in it. By Aug 35 he's really going to stink.

Isn't that pic hilarious? I've never really been one for sigs but that one was too funny to pass up.

Clinton fulfills long-held promise to student
Former presidential hopeful speaks at young supporter's graduation

updated 2:35 a.m. ET, Mon., June. 23, 2008
NEW YORK - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton fulfilled a pledge to a young supporter by speaking at the teenager's high school graduation on Sunday.

The girl, Aleatha Williams, a campaign volunteer and the daughter of a supporter, introduced the senator to fellow graduates from Pelham Preparatory Academy in the Bronx as "my aunt."

Clinton said she had known Aleatha "and her wonderful mother, Patricia," since the girl was 2 and had promised her when she graduated from eighth grade that she would attend her high school graduation.

"Four years later, here I am with all of you," Clinton said.

The New York senator ended her campaign for the Democratic nomination for president on June 7 and endorsed Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, who has clinched the nomination.

She invoked the campaign to urge the 86 graduates to achieve success.

Changed 'view of women'
"No one five years ago, no one four years ago, when I attended Aleatha's graduation lunch, could have predicted that an African-American and a woman would have been competing for the presidency of the United States in 2008," Clinton said.

Pelham Preparatory Academy was founded in 2002 as part of an initiative to improve graduation rates by carving up some of the city's large high schools into smaller, more manageable units.

Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, who attended the school's commencement ceremony at nearby Fordham University, said students should always remember that an American hero spoke at their graduation.

"She changed America's view of women," Klein said. "Someday soon, very soon in America, we will have a woman as president. And you know what that woman will say? 'I would not be here had it not been for Hillary Rodham Clinton.'"

Parent Irma Hudson, whose daughter Stephanie Solis was among the graduates, said Clinton's presence was exciting.

"I think she still serves as a role model for the children in this community," Hudson said. "You don't fail, you just keep on trying."

You can't make this stuff up.

Obama/Hillary Unity Rally Set To Take Place In A Town Called ... "Unity"
By Greg Sargent - June 23, 2008, 1:20PM
The Obama campaign has just announced the details of his planned joint appearance with Hillary this coming Friday -- their first appearance together since Obama clinched -- and it has to be said that the specifics are pretty artful.

They're holding a joint rally in a town that's actually called "Unity, New Hampshire." And that's not all: In "Unity," the Obama campaign says, each candidate received exactly the same number of votes! One hundred and seven apiece, to be exact.

You can't make this stuff up. What was the likelihood of finding a place called "Unity" for a unity event -- let alone one where both candidates pulled exactly the same support?

You can't make this stuff up.

It's from the Obama camp.. I don't believe anything that they say anymore. It's just a political publicity stunt to help 'unify' the party. They found a town with the name that they wanted and I doubt even the townspeople knows how many voted for Hillary and how many voted for Obama. It’s highly doubtful that there were a equal number of votes for each candidate.

Not that I really care about this – it’s a clever publicity stunt, I’ll give them that. I think that I’ve officially become a cynic during this entire election process. Not that it really matters either.

Is it 5:00 yet? :(

Remember the little town called Hope? I really enjoyed those days. :)

I hope that Obama doesn't tell HS to "get over it" again. If he really wants Unity I think that there are better things he could say.

Most definitely a cheesy political stunt - but supposedly the vote was confirmed - exactly half for him - exactly half for her.

I swear someone needs to stick a pin into that man's head before it gets any bigger.

I guess I can thank Obama for one thing, helping me make a decision on who to vote for in November. After Obama's recent behavior and smug comments and the holier than thou attitude, I will be voting for McCain come November. ::yes::

Thank you Obama for helping me make that decision. It will be easier to vote for McCain now ;)

I posted this thread here on Dis. It is a article from the NYT's (but i linked it from MSNBC since you dont need a subscribtion to them).

It states why Obama won Iowa, and how he is in the ethanol corp pockets!!!!:scared1:

:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I also firmly believe that Obama WANTS & NEEDS the race issue in this campaign to deflect from what he really values & stands for!:headache:

I really don't want to turn this into an Obama bashing thread, but since many of us are trying to decide between Obama and McCain, I thought this opinion piece may be thought provoking.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/23/AR2008062301829.html

Interesting article.

For a while I really didn't know if I could vote for McCain, I never voted anyone but a Dem before.

I have come to my decision to vote for McCain in November. I will be honest in that most of it is vote against Obama, but it is also a vote I can live with.

I fear for this Country with Obama in the White House, more so then if McCain was in the White House.

With all of Obama's shady dealings and questionable past, not to mention all the recent "issues" of his coming to light, I can not and will not vote for the man. I will vote for the "other guy" (McCain) and know I am voting for the better person to run this Country. I do not fully support McCain, not even a little, but I can sleep better at night then if Obama was running the Country.

I think we will see a lot of "McCain Democrats" this election ;)
