I dont get something....why is it that so many Obama supporters on the boards seem to thing that Rev. Wright is no big deal...after all it's not obama saying those words:confused3

But ,but but, ....he has been at the church for 20 years, is his moral compass, inspiration for his book, married them, and so on and so on....am I missing something :confused3

Over on the Obama thread (I always read never post there) I had to post due to some OS'ers stating that the non supporters that are afraid of how he will run the country are using that excuse and Rev Wright as an excuse when in reallity it is that we are afraid of a black man being the next POTUS...ummmmmm what :lmao:

I have no doubt that there are some that feel that way just as there are some that will not vote for Hillary because she is a woman...but to stereotyped so many of us together just floored me. :rotfl2:

I do not know anyone who cares he is black.

You know I've debated answering this post all day because I really don't think I need to justify my feelings about Obama in this thread of all places. But I'm going to assume that your question is sincere.

I believe that this country is sitting on the edge of a precipice. Eight years on Bush and Cheney has damaged us almost beyond repair. The next 4 years will be a very critical period in our history. I believe it takes someone strong and experienced.

You and I have very different opinions on what "nearly" means. Hillary was sworn into the senate in Jan of 2001. Obama was sworn in on Jan 2005. That's 7.5 years of Experience vs 3.5. Yes, I know that Obama has experience on the state senate. But imo that's not the same as working on a national scale. That's where Hillary's experience dominates imo.

I truly believe that Hillary has a much better concept of working on a national scale, she's got a better handle of world politics, she's got some previously established relationships with world leaders. She's got some reflected good will based on being Bill's wife since many world leaders truly like BC. I believe repairing our international relationships is a major priority, and I believe Hillary is better able to do that.

Outside of his (admittedly incredible) speeches I have not been impressed with Obama. His answers in the debates were less then satisfying. The Wright situation has left me questioning his judgement as well as his political savvy. How could he not know how Rev Wright would play to the "average white person" He seems to be tone deaf to why people have an issue with his membership in that church. For someone so determined to be a uniter - he seems to have a real knack for dividing people, and being oblivious to how or why it's happening.

I think Obama has the potential to be a good president one day. I believe he's got some great ideas and not enough experience to really get them done But this country doesn't have the time for a learning curve ... at least not one as large as he's going to need. That's why I think he's dangerous.

I don't expect to have changed your mind about Obama. But hopefully you'll understand why I believe what I believe - even though you don't agree.

And most of all, I hope you'll go back to the silly fool in the Obama thread and tell them that not everyone who thinks Obama is dangerous is a racist. I'm far from it. My own daughter is bi-racial. I would love for her to be able to see another biracial person reach the pinnacle of power in this country. But I don't believe it's Obama - at least not at this time.

Excellent - well stated!!!

Brava!!!!

Some Obama supporters will think what they want to think. I am fine with that, if they want to think I will not vote for Obama because I am a racist, fine. Their opinions of me doesn't matter  I know how I feel and I know what I am and I also know how I treat other races. ;)

SOME Obama supporters (not all, because there are some intelligent ones and ones I do respect their opinion), need to get off their high horse. Those are the ones that are making Obama seem like the ONLY person on this whole planet that could run the Country. Like he is the "all and mighty Obama"
THEY are also the ones who are turning Obama off for many, many people!!!

I mentioned that my DH had commented that he was scared of Obama but he also said that about Al Gore. I think he's worried that both guys are too Liberal since he doesn't lean that way. It's nice that some on the other thread can try to categorize him as a racist when he couldn't be further than that.

Some of them really get nasty over there. :(

I agree! I know that much of my anger and frustration is because of supporters and not Obama himself. Do some of them really think that being nasty is somehow going to help Obama? Or maybe they just don't really care? :confused3

Disclaimer: I too am only speaking of certain supporters not ALL.

Why even go on that thread? Just like they cannot make me believe that Obama is the end all and be all, I cannot convince them that Hillary is a capable person who will make an amazing president. Seeing their comments just upsets me and I would rather not be upset. Do yourself a favor and do not go there to "correct misapprehensions" or "make your case". It is fruitless.

Your post was very well stated.

I believe putting Obama in the White Office he will "learn" about politics and I agree we are at a critical time in our Country. We need someone from day one who will take the bull by the horns.

Speeches don't impress me much. I will give Obama credit, his speeches are wonderful, but speeches are just that --- talk! I don't think he can put his speeches into action.

Example is his big loooooooong speeches about bringing the Country together. It's like he thinks a nice cozy speech will get people flocking to his feet. I don't remember a time when the Democratic party was SOOOOOOO divided. Hmmmmmm....so much for a great uniter ;)
There is NO way he would be able to unite this Country. His speech about there are no Blue or Red States, but Purple states, is naive! There will always be Red or Blue states! It would be nice if that wasn't the case but it is naive to think a state like Texas would go in a Blue column! Serious does any one REALLY picture that happening?

He 'scares' as a president because I think he will divide the Country even more and do such a bad job as President that when his term is up we will see the Congress and White House turned back over to the Reps! Look at how long it took us to get back control of the Congress.

Of course "those" certain Obama supporters will twist my thoughts around and call me racist :lmao: That is OK, I am thick skin and I can take it ;)

I think "they" (the some) hate Hillary so much - she's the enemy right now. Its ok with them to be "nasty" because they believe she's lost - and right now they want to run her out of town.

I also think they believe all Hillary supporters will then suddenly see the light - and vote for Obama......

I go there every now and then - in the hopes that I'll read something to help me see why so many think he's going to be the next best president.

But really, its become an anti Hillary thread - and on occasion - an anti Hillary supporter thread.

I should probably stay away, as the answers aren't there........

I keep trying to tell them we (fellow dems supporting Hillary) aren't the "enemy....."

Can you really not see how an Obama supporter could say the exact same thing, just switching the names?

You're absolutely right. I haven't posted there but I lurk out of curiosity and I shouldn't. Or at least I'll TRY not to. ;)

Do you really see that much anti-Obama and anti-Obama supporter stuff here? I see so much name calling over there but I don't see it here as much but I guess that it's all a matter of perspective.

OK I'm done. I'm going to ignore Obama threads and supporters for a while - within reason that is. I'll try not to mention him either. For a while. ;)

Nope, that information is not there. I don't go to that thread, because you do get burned up reading that stuff. I would rather not hurt someone's feelings, because they don't think the way I do, so I don't post much against Barack and his followers.

We just have to back our Lady and see what happens. She owes it to her supporters to keep in it until the end.

It's probably because I am not offended by black anger toward white people in power. Most of the cherry-picked quotes were Wright railing against "the man". Sure, Wright has said some hateful and ignorant things. Things about Jews and Israel. Things about AIDS. Lots of people say and believe stupid things, myself included. The fact is that Obama has never, to my knowledge, said or written any of those things.

I guess what I don't get is the whole "20 years, moral compass, married them, yadda, yadda, yadda" stuff. What exactly does this mean in terms of Obama being a good president? Do you think that Obama actually shares those hateful and ignorant views? That AIDS was designed to kill black people? That he thinks that Israel is just another South Africa? That he will get into office in order to tear down the white power elite?

Anyway ... I think that this particular controversy will just be one that we will have to "agree to disagree" on :flower3:. I don't get why you are outraged and you don't get why I am not.

I don't feel the outrage about Wright either even though I felt it was worth noting. I don't get a lot of things though. I never understood why some people were so mad at Hillary because of things Bill did either but maybe it's due to personal experience. No, I'm not married to a philanderer as far as I know :) but DH and I are so different and have such different views that I really don't relate Hillary to Bill all that much.

My concern with him being a member of the church is this. Obama supported, both financially and spiritually with his attendance, the views of this minister for 20 years. He has stated this man is his advisor, his friend, and his inspiration for his books. How can that be true if he doesn't share the majority of the same beliefs? For instance, would it be logical for someone to claim that George W. was their advisor, friend and inspiration if they didn't share the same philosophies?

God Damn America is offensive to me. I am pretty sure it is offensive to the vast majority of middle of the road voters without whose votes we cannot possibly win in November. I believe that with Wright on his side, Obama is unelectable.

Do I think Obama will wage a war on Whitie? No, I do not, but I also doubt he can be the kind of uniter he originally looked like when this whole thing started.
