Palin disinvited from Iran rally

Sarah Palin was disinvited from the Jewish-sponsored anti-Iran rally.

The move follows two days of controversy for organizers of next Monday’s rally to protest Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the United Nations.

The controversy erupted after JTA reported that Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, had accepted an invitation from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to speak at the event. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), who had accepted a similar invitation several weeks earlier, announced she was withdrawing from the event.

A Clinton spokesperson said the senator was concerned the rally had become “a partisan political event.”

Republicans responded by slamming Clinton for putting partisanship above the effort to stop Iran by pulling out of the rally. Palin “believes that the danger of a nuclear Iran is greater than party or politics,” Palin spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said.

The National Jewish Democratic Council defended Clinton's decision not to attend and called for Palin to be disinvited so as to preserve the nonpartisan nature of the effort to halt Iran's nuclear ambitions.

On Thursday afternoon, the Conference of Presidents held a conference call for organizers of the rally at which the decision was made to limit participation in the rally to unelected officials.

Organizers put out a statement on Thursday afternoon saying, "In order to keep the focus on Iranian threats and to ensure that this critical message not be obscured, the organizers of the rally have decided not to have any American political personalities appear."

GO HILLARY!!!

Hi everyone...so who is still here. ? Have you all decided who you are supporting or not supporting or not voting? This election has been so intense on the new and all the boards and every where. Cant wait to watch the debates.

Has anyone heard anything about if Obama is going to or offered anything to Hillary if he is elected? I have not but thought that maybe I missed something...

I cant get over all the lies that these 2 candidates are using. Thought they were both going to (mostly Obama) rise above that. I only see it getting worse over the next few weeks:scared:

What is terrible about it is there are many that dont follow politics at all and go by what the adds and the media send out there....not to good if you need to base your choice on half truths.

I must say if Obama ran this election like he said he would...not as another politician....and did all he said he was going to do no matter what his opponent threw at him than even with all of the things that I dont like about him...he would have gotten my vote. I would have at least looked at him as an honorable man.

That is the stuff that turned me off the most is that he turned out not be that. IMO he made a 360 degree turn. Even though his supporters are saying he had no choice...that is not the point the point is that he was going to be a different kind of politician...and not go that way...And he bases his candidacy on it...HOPE AND CHANGE...time to be honest with the voters...well he was and has not been honest.

I am here, but have nothing to add. Looks like this election has devolved into "who can spread the most lies the fastest, and frankly, I don't want either of these men in office. :sad2:

So have you still decided not to vote and do a write in or are you waiting for the debates?

If Obama does not get in in 4 years when Hillary comes back we will have this mess to do with all over again. However...Hillary will not make the same mistakes and she will start early getting moneys for her campaign and come out fighting....

I wonder if Sarah Palin will go up against her? I hope that the DEM party will have learned there lesson and push for Hillary to get in...Wonder if they again will take another chance with Obama. popcorn::

I am waiting for the debates, but the nasty advertising has shown me plenty about the two who would be president. I cannot imagine voting for either one, the way things stand now.

I am horrified about the economy and I think these two are the worst possible candidates to deal with that issue. IMO, taxes will have to be raised; services will have to be cut; and we are generally in for a great big world of pain for the next 2-3 years. Whoever gets elected will be a one-term president.

I would love to see Hillary v. Palin. Hillary would wipe the floor with her.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. In fact the DEMS are even 'upset" with Obama these days. He wont help any of them financially or even support them in their races. I posted this thread about it.

Yep, I will be voting for McCain/Palin. McCain is moderate enough that I can vote for him. Nope, I don't think McCain is enother Bush ;)

I am going to try to find a McCain/Palin sign to put in the yard ;)

Another race I was having a lot of trouble deciding in was the MN Senate race. We have two bozos at the top (much like the Presidential race :lmao: ) Norm Coleman and Al Franken! :headache: :headache:
I refuse to vote for either of these two clowns, so after some research the Independent candidate Dean Barkley will get my vote :thumbsup2

Although I already made my decision I am looking forward to the debates :thumbsup2

Funny how I have seen no sins anywhere...mostly Obama since Obama in California is like 60% obama and 40% McCain...something like that.

My vote here will mean nada because it is such a DEM state. And we wre not a swing state. But I will be voting McCain anyway...and ITA he is NOT like Bush.

I think that I have said before that I am going to vote for Obama/Biden. McCain's sickening pandering to the religious right by selecting Palin (Palin? Seriously? I mean, talk about pathetically underqualified!) has made it necessary for me to cast a vote for the lesser of two evils, instead of the protest vote I had been planning on.

It does not make me happy and I find no joy in this year's election at all.

I am in a Dem state, but this election we are considered a battleground state. Last poll done McCain/Obama were dead even at 45% each.

Now I do think Obama will win MN. This state has not gone Red since 1972 for a President election and I just can't see that changing. (although stranger things have happened)

As far as signs, just over the weekend they have been popping out left and right. It is a fairly good mixture of McCain and Obama. We do have one guy in town who is holding out with his support for Ron Paul though :lmao:

It is hard isnt it....this has been the hardest election that I can think of for me. Usually i also go with the lesser evil if need be. Like when I voted for Kerry. This time my lesser evil is McCain. Funny ha :confused3 ...I just cant sem to bring myself to vote for Obama.

Ron Paul has been a trooper :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Well got my new yard sign....it says "Another Democrat for McCain" :thumbsup2

Sums it up pretty perfectly for me ;)

New data showing that (a) Obama is making no progress in gaining Hillary supporters and (b) that the number of the latter group that view MCCain favorably is increasing.

Not a surprise, he hasn't done a thing, IMO, to try to win over the Clinton votes. He has Hillary do the work. I think most of the Clinton supporters feel loyality to the Dem party so they feel they have no other choice then to vote for Obama, whether they like him or not. (much like I did last election with John Kerry).

I might have been loyal to the Dem party at one time but I really had my eyes opened during the primaries and I did not like what I saw. So I feel no loyality to the party and besides I really, really do believe McCain can/will do a better job at leading our Country then Obama.

I have never had any "loyalty to the party." I have always voted by issues. Usually though, my issues line up pretty well with the Dem platform. This election is different because even though I agree with Obama's statements on many of the issues, I just don't trust him at all, and I am faced with the conundrum of voting on the issues with Obama or on character with McCain. Prior to Palin, I was leaning to McCain. Now, I just don't know.

This quote stuck out from that article:

Other September polls have shown Obama making progress in recent weeks with one-time Clinton backers and doing better with them than in the AP-Yahoo News survey. One by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center had Obama with 78 percent of their support and McCain with 18 percent; another by ABC News and The Washington Post showed Obama ahead 72 percent to 23 percent.

Those figures measured Clinton supporters who are registered voters - who in the AP-Yahoo News poll leaned toward Obama over McCain 61 percent to 26 percent. The discrepancies in the polls might come from how they were conducted.

That survey is reporting against the same 2000 folks - perhaps these folks are not representatve of all Hillary supporters.

Obama was obviously not my first choice. But I feel that the only way to hold the Bush Admistration accountable - albeit after the fact - is to get Obama\Biden in there.

Yeah - Obama is going to need some quick on-the-job training - but with Biden by his side - I have no doubt he will start his admistration running in trying to solve all these problems that are busting out of the seams of this ugh current administration!

Ask yourself this - who is most likely going to be successful in cleaning up this mess? A senator who's been around for years and helped caused the mess, or a fairly new well educated senator who will bring new ideas to the table?

That's all behind my decision making process - plus I am really hoping Obama does well - so I can wholeheartedly back him.

For me when I ask myself that bolded question, the answer is John McCain will be better (NOT PERFECT THOUGH) at cleaning up this mess then Obama. I know not everyone agrees with that but that is my feelings on the subject so that is who I go with my vote

I said this on another thread and I’ll say there here:

Recently we’ve had two “3AM wake-up calls” that the presidential nominees could respond to. How often do we get to see the nominees in action before having to elect them into office? Both times Obama immediately released a lame statement that wasn’t fully comprehending the situation. Both times McCain released a much more informed statement taking a stronger stance in one way or another. Obama then came back with a revised statement basically reiterating what McCain said and then making a crass comment on how glad he is that McCain agrees with him on that issue.

It was just Obama voting “present” it was just Obama "copying Hillary’s response in a debate". If elected, whose Obama going to copy for the answers he needs right then?

We need a leader and not a copier to run this country.

I honesty don't see this. I thought Obama's response to this finacial crisis was spot on.

Perhaps I'm now too entrenched in his candidacy to see only positive things about him.

I guess we'll just disagree on it.

I gave McCain a look see after Hillary conceded. There's not one thing in his campaign that gives me hope he can lead us out of this mess. His choice in Palin cemented by belief that he is "owned" or owes the extreme right wing of his party. That is so not me.

The more I look, the more his campaign represents the current administration. I can't have that on my conscience.

I wish you well - hope to see you all in other threads - and maybe back on the liberal thread one day........
