Hijinks & Shenanigans but not much Mayhem@The Dark Side+Disney:Link to DL/Hawaii TR

Dee, you did a great job assigning new names to the snacks and facilities. :thumbsup2 It looks like the production went really well and Ben did a great job.

The pictures of your "office" are stunning! What I wouldn't give to work with a couple of "real" pigs, goats, and donkeys. As it is, I just work with an A$$. :rotfl:

OK, this is all really good stuff, but now I'm feeling like my theatre concession signs require significant improvement, as mine only say "water" and "candy." I'm sending you my word document via e-mail so you can see how inferior they are! And your office - well, given my profession I should just get an automatic pass on that one - no way I can top that one!

Dee I think you are one of the hardest working moms around! My last volunteer job was as the treasurer for my middle son's Carnegie Hall performance for his chorale group in 1999!! :rotfl2: Getting 20 parents to cough up $900 for their kid to attend was quite a job!

Echo's pop pop corn corn! :rotfl2: That was great.

I loved the fall photos of the farm. I really wish we had seasons here - at least a season with pretty colors! :)

Loving the "office" pics and wow the menu and stage settings are class:thumbsup2 Ben looks amazing in his costume. Glad to hear the production went well. You have set me thinking about volunteering at some of the National Trust properties here in a year or two when the youngest stays in school a little later than now :goodvibes

I sure wish my office looked like that as well! It just looks beautiful in the fall! Very cool. Thanks for all the great pictures of your "coworkers".

And the play set is very creative. Nice job!

Hope you and your family have a great thanksgiving and I was happy to see your TR bump up on my subbed TRs this morning. :thumbsup2

Gorgeous fall pictures Dee! Love your office and co-workers!!
That's awesome that Ben seems to have caught the acting bug. I was in theater in high school and minored in college so I know it is an exciting thing to be a part of :goodvibes

From our family to yours..Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Just wanted to drop in and say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

What a beautiful office! No wonder you have been spending more time there than on the DisBoards. And you must be so proud of Ben. :)

While Big Dave is super cute, I'd love to get my hands on some yarn made from Cloud. I'm guessing Cloud would make some nice mittens. ;)

Wonderful props and concessions for the theatre group! I'm a big fan of Dionysus' throne, I could probably take over that spot and be happy.
I'm also a huge fan of your office. Especially your "co-workers"! Schooner is just stunning. He looks so SO much like my old horse Jewel's mother! I have a serious soft spot for palominos

That is quite the production. Awesome costumes!!!!!!

I am loving the farm pictures too! That sheep is so cute with the curly hair.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

There are many things in my life for which I am thankful, and I want to let you all know that the friends and family I have met here have an important place on that list. It is amazing that a group of people who may not have otherwise met have become a part of each others lives through a mutual love of Disney.

Thanks so much for all of your comments!

I forgot to add that all of our animals are rescues that come from the MSPCA. Whenever they get a farm animal that they think would be a good fit for our place, they let us know. We just got a new goat, Lyra, this week. We have been very fortunate that most of the animals we get have been super sweet and gentle. They will live the rest of their lives on our farm and act as ambassadors to the people who visit.

We don't know all of their histories or stories, but Alfie, the smaller of the pigs, belonged to a teenaged girl who secretly purchased him as a little piglet and then kept him hidden in her grandmother's pool shed. When he was discovered by her family, he was turned in, and then came to us.

In addition to our animal programs, we offer a lot of historical classes like "First Settlers", where we talk about life in the 1600's. I get to grind (spices) and churn (butter) for this one while in Colonial garb. We have a historical fiction class "In Search of a Story" where we use the detailed diary of one of the farm's former owners who was a ship captain, war hero, prisoner and farmer to introduce students to the setting and vocabulary for stories they will write about life in Colonial times. And we have an archeology program where kids dig in a practice pit and find artifacts, they put together shards of pottery to make items, make inferences about some artifacts and then tour the house to see the changes that have taken place there over the past 300 years. We have a door in the wall that shows the different layers from stone, to wood, to paneling, to recent repairs.

I love the concession sign and the bathroom names...well done. :thumbsup2

Beautiful pictures from the production.

And oh my...I wish my office looked like that! Great pictures.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Thank you so much!

Coming up with the names for the show snacks has become my "thing" and the pressure is always on. It is funny when inspiration comes for some of the names.

I am lucky to be able to work in such a beautiful place, although sometimes the enjoyment is weather-dependent.

And the best part? Some of the, ahem, less glamorous chores on the farm are done by volunteers, not staff.

;)

Wonderful pics! :goodvibes

Thank you so much!

:)

Thank you!

It was a great show and we had a super talented cast. It was not one of our better-attended shows, which is a shame since it was such a quality production. But at least I get to share a bit with all of you.

Sorry, I won't trade my donkey for yours! Roger is super sweet and really loud.

:rotfl2:

So sorry to cause concession stand-envy. The consolation I can offer you is that at least you don't have to deal with performance anxiety about coming up with stage-names for your snacks! Once you go down that road...

Fortunately, I get a lot of satisfaction from my work, because the hours and pay are not much. But as I mentioned above, I get to do the fun stuff at the farm, while others volunteer their time for the nastier jobs there.

:scared1:

I used to make my own business cards when the kids were small. My profession was listed as "Stay at Home Mom Who Rarely Stays at Home" and had a graphic of a mom running around.

Echo's pop pop corn corn! :rotfl2: That was great.

Thank Thank You You!

:thumbsup2

I loved the fall photos of the farm. I really wish we had seasons here - at least a season with pretty colors! :)

One of the moms in the preschool group I have on Fridays just moved from California and she couldn't stop remarking about all of the trees and beautiful colors.

I had never even been on the farm until I started working there. That would be cool if you could find an opportunity to volunteer (or better yet, work) at one of the historic places in your neck of the woods.

This was Ben's favorite costume ever!

::yes::

Thanks for looking at the pictures and for your kind comments.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well. Are you traveling or hosting?

:goodvibes

I would love your office! Great pics!

Thanks! Glad you stopped by.

From our family to yours..Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much.

It always amazes me that Ben enjoys acting so much. When he was younger, he was shy and kind of a loner, but now he has made many great friends in the theater. I have heard that a lot of actors are very shy but are able to get up on stage because they are someone else.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, too!!!

:goodvibes

What a beautiful office! No wonder you have been spending more time there than on the DisBoards.

While Big Dave is super cute, I'd love to get my hands on some yarn made from Cloud. I'm guessing Cloud would make some nice mittens. ;)

We do shear Cloud and use his wool.

Another one of our programs is called "From Sheep to Shawl" We take the kids through the whole process of shearing the sheep. We have a puppet and also a sheep costume with a zipper that we put a small kid into to demonstrate how we get the fleece. Then we hand out a piece of wool that hasn't been cleaned yet, then some cleaned wool, then we card it, stretch it and spin it into bracelets that the kids can wear.

And you must be so proud of Ben. :)

I am incredibly proud of Ben. He was amazing! In a very talented cast, he really stood out.

:thumbsup2

The production values of our shows- sets, costumes and props- are pretty impressive (and expensive!) This is what happens when you get a group of Type A perfectionists together!

Schooner is a beautiful, friendly horse. He is around 20 years old. He came from out west. Because of some of his behaviors, we believe that he worked with cowboys.

That is quite the production. Awesome costumes!!!!!!

I am loving the farm pictures too! That sheep is so cute with the curly hair.

It was a great show! It was a lot of work- 5 shows in 4 days, plus a performance level dress rehearsal. It always takes me a few days to catch up with life after a show closes.

Our costume/artistic director Tara is extremely talented. She has some fantastic ideas for costumes and works really hard to make our cast look great.

Cloud is awesome! We got him a couple of years ago. And I named him! We had other goats with celestial names: Luna, Sun, Shine and I thought Cloud would fit right in.

:goodvibes

I'd love for my second-graders to see this. Maybe you can stop by my school someday? :goodvibes

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!
Would love your office and co workers. I am an animal lover.
The fall foliage looks beautiful in the pics, not so beautiful to rake and blow leaves though. I hate the fall for that reason. The leaves are just never ending.

Ok Dee I could do with your sheep costume:) No prizes for guessing what my youngest is in the Christmas show -and apparently he's "not even a talking sheep, just one that joins in the songs":rotfl2:

:wave2:

My name is Dee.

I used to write trip reports!

:sad2:

Excuse of the week: I am at the middle school all week helping to run the book fair.

But I have actually STARTED to write the next update. However, that chapter is just going to cover the walk from the safari to Everest. And I still manage to include over 20 photos!!!

Thank you!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

:goodvibes

Love this idea!

This is for you! I have been meaning to post this for ages! I have another one for you that I will put onto Facebook.

;)

Next time I am in your neck of the woods...

Work is fun. Most of the time. Although sometimes there can be a little "too much" nature.

About a month ago, one of our goats (Apple, the naughty goat who escapes from the paddock) knocked me over when I was holding a bucket of food. My car keys fell out of my pocket and it took me 45 minutes of raking and help from a woman and her grandson to find them in all of the leaves!

:lmao:

Congratulations to your son! Break a paw!

I wish I could send our sheep costume to you. Do you have to provide one?

:scared1:
