highlighting colored hair

I finally got up the nerve and have colored my own roots with root touch up on my hair which has highlights and lowlights from the salon. Trying to join the ranks of those saving $$$. It actually looks nice, I used light golden brown, but now that Ive done it a couple of times the top looks just a tad darker than the rest which has some highlights in it. I don't want to do alot, but would like tho throw a few highlights on the top to get it to match better....any sugggestions? I really want to try this on my own, I figure if I mess it up, then Ill go to the stylist and pay my 120 to have her fix it

go for it! I use light golden brown too. I use a paint on highlighter. (Im not good at names, I just rememebr the girl on the box LOL!) Wal Mart sells this brand and it comes in either a paint on or a cap/hook pull through which I couldnt do with long hair Ive done it probably 10 times over the past few years and never once had a problem.
