Highest rack rate per year - do rack rates increase throughout the year? Confused.

I just have a question for informational purposes. :)

I booked room only for next year and I know they book you (supposedly) at the highest rack rate for your room type for the current year (2019), then adjust when 2020 rates come out.

Except looking at the breakdown of my summary, I was not actually charged the highest rack rate of the year. For fun I was pricing December vacations and my booked room rate was over $100 more a night. So would that mean they do in fact increase room rates throughout the course of the year? That may make a difference for future bookings, seems the earlier the better?

thanks!

Disney has various "seasons." Many hotels do. They tend to charge more during periods of higher occupancy, like around major holidays, and less during typically slower times. If you were looking at rates during the December holidays, then yes, you would have seen higher prices.

Thanks! I just got confused because for my 2020 trip, I thought I was booked at what was already the highest rack rate for 2019 (for room only), but seems I wasn't.
Which is disheartening when it comes to thinking of what my price will increase to - I was figuring 7% on top of what my total is right now, thinking that's as high as it got for 2019. :rotfl:

Maybe they just charge you for the highest rack rate from the previous year during the week you're going?

You know what? I bet that's it. I probably just misunderstood this whole time. Thanks!

Sorry to anyone I have confused! :rotfl:

Rack rates can increase during the year. For example, when the opening of SWGE was shifted from late fall to August, the October rack rates increased. The price we booked at in March is still being honored, but when we looked to modify our reservation, even the exact same room, view, and dates had increased in price.

And that's the scary answer. Because some of the rack rates now are...beyond what a normal human can afford. ;) Imagine what the 2020 prices will be...

Seriously, we may have to give up our Boardwalk Water view dream and I'm a bit bummed. We shall see on the 18th, but I'm not hopeful.

You may still get your Boardwalk water view room! You can make the deposit to hold the reservation but keep watching for future discounts and rebook at a lower rate or with some other promotion. We’ve done that successfully in the past and ended up with 40% off at GF. Discounts may not be as plentiful in 2020 with SW crowds, but you never know! Good luck!
