Higher protein, lower carb snacks?

I will start this off by saying I am in no way a health nut nor am I on "one of them there special diets" (Mater). :-) I have a list of snacks I want to try, and they all seem to be super carb heavy. Do you have a favorite snack that isn't a ton of carbs, especially at MK and Epcot? I know that with my body, if I don't find a balance, I will just feel terrible and that just isn't fun on a vacation. I need to keep the protein and water intake up, to allow me to also indulge in the carbs and alcohol.

I so relate to this Sarahgraci! I was wondering the same thing. It seems like everything is sweets and breads at WDW. I'll probably be in search of nuts, cheese and meat for snacks, lol! Turkey leg is a great idea and would love to hear more.

Turkey leg.

WDW TURKEY LEGS "411":
1) Disney sells about 1.5 MILLION turkey legs every year!
2) That is about 7 turkey legs for every man-woman-child in Orlando.
3) Each of these bird legs weighs about 1.5 pounds for about $12 or 1-CS DDP Credit.
4) They supposedly come from 40-50 pound turkeys!
5) Nutrition, per Lisa Haines, VP Communications, WDW
. . . about a half day's worth of a grown-man's calorie goal (1,092 cal each leg)
. . . about a day's worth of a grown-man's fat goal (54 gr each leg)
. . . about two day's worth of a grown-man's sodium goal (5,283 gr each leg)
6) Recipe
. . . take uber-monstrous one leg
. . . inject copious amounts of salt brine
. . . smoke slowly at 225º for 4 hrs.
7) Available at the below (all Turkey Legs taste the same, and from he same vendor)
. . . MK - Liberty Square at Turkey Leg Cart
. . . MK - Tomorrowland at Launching Pad
. . . EP - America Adventure at Fife and Drum Tavern
. . . AK - Flame Tree BBQ at Safari Turkey
. . . AK - Dinoland at Trilo Bites
. . . AK - Africa at Flame Tree BBQ
. . . HS - Tower of Terror at Toluca Legs Turkey Company
. . . TL - Surf Doggies
. . . BL - Avalaunch

After a quick look through some menus, it appears that carrots and celery w/Ranch dip is easy to find. Some places have hard boiled eggs and some have fruit and cheese. I noticed a couple of places had a sugar free brownie but that isn't exactly low carb because of the flour :( . I don't know how gluten-free dieters do it.

I live a low carb lifestyle. Not during my Disney Vacation. It's my vacation from my diet. I tried maintaining the diet once. The kitchen sink ruined that. Then I discovered the dessert parties and midnight cheesecake.

The diet gets bagged during Disney.

1) Me, too.
2) I love the Mickey Ice Cream Bars.
3) I was told, on good authority, that WDW removed the calories and carbs for us. *

* That is my story, and I am sticking with it.
I was told that all the calories and carbs were removed from everything on property. I totally bought it until I got home and the scale was 6 lbs up.:confused3

Roasted pork shank at Gaston's, but it's huge. I'd bring mixed nuts and look for HB eggs in the resort CS. Veggies and side salads. Charcuterie at someplace like Tutto Gusto. Cheese plates, as mentioned. For the most part, I go the veggie route in between the sugary/salty treats. The huge amounts of sodium in park food and travel/weather water retention can get mighty uncomfortable during vacation!

Taking my quest bars with me on this trip. Turkey legs...:crazy2:. There's protein in ice cream, right? :-)

AK has a nice cheese fruit snack. I always bring Kit Clif bars or high protein low carb bars in a fanny pack or string pack. And nuts. Lots of cashews, almonds (in dates!), or walnuts. Also, a beef jerky is easy to tote. Unfortunately if you are serious about sticking to a low carb snack, bringing stuff in is the way to go.

I carry small paks of almonds or walnuts for a quick protein snack- or a kind bar which is mostly nuts. Every morning i toss a couple into my purse.

We brought trail mix from home (Costco size bag) and a box of Ziploc snack packs and did one for each of us in the morning. We also did the 100 calorie packs of Almonds and bars from home. There were not a ton of snacks that were low carb, but each park has a place that sells fresh fruit (not low carb, but better than processed foods) and most of those places also had mixed nuts or some kind of nut/seed snack mix.

Any of the counter service places will serve their sandwiches without the bun for you, I do it all the time. :-)

I bring protein bars from home and always have one stashed in my bag for when I need a snack but don't want something overly sugary.

I also bring protein bars, nuts, and cheese sticks in. I definitely don't stick to "low carb" while on vacation, but I just can't take in all those carbs without some good protein to offset all of the sugar. I'd be a shaky, jittery mess if I didn't bring my own snacks in.
