High tent sites prices?

I have checked several different dates and I keep getting 85 to 90$ a night for fort wilderness tent sites

That seems very high compared to camping anywhere else.

Am I looking at the wrong dates or is this what they always are

Low demand times weekday rates are abt $50 in 2015. Rates go up the busier the season and the weekend upcharge has gotten pretty severe now.

Please tell us what dates you are looking at. That rate is typical for some time frames.

PS -The Fort IS more expensive than almost anywhere else. The only plave I've paid more is in the Florida Keys.

It all depends on when you are going, here is what the rates are for tent/popup camper December 2014. As it gets closer to the holidays the rates go up.

11/29-12/11 Weekday $54 Weekend $64

12/12-12/18 Weekday $81 Weekend $93

12/19-12/31 All days $105

I have looked in February, April and may and all were around 88 to 100

Weekend dates. Thursday to Sunday

I was expecting around 65 for tent sites and maybe 100 for preferred rv sites. But 90 for a tent site is high.

I camped in the keys last year and paid that but didn't think disney would be as bad. And in the keys we were in a rv site (borrowed my uncles TT)

I will say at least the fort has spacing(it appears). In the keys we had about 2 inches between us and the other sites.

This makes me want to try and rent a rv again if I am going to be spending 100 a spot anyway I might as well go big and get a more comfortable sleep

Mid Feb till end of April is Peak season with higher rates which you are looking at. Value is cheaper which is mid Jan thru mid Feb and sites are only $49. We rented a RV last year the second week of Feb which was the end of value time, weather was great and crowds very low.

It makes me long for the day when there were three "seasons" only and no weekend upcharge.

In 1977 I think my family paid $25 a night which was still crazy expensive for a campsite. We normally paid $3-5 for a state park (no utilities) to maybe $10 or 12 at a "resort" style campground in Myrtle Beach that was on the beach.

Also at the time I think their were fewer sites since I recall that there was about 6 feet of "jungle" between sites. I now understand that jungle has been removed since it was made up of non native species but when I look at pics today it looks closer to some of the parking lot campgrounds we have stayed at.

Even though I expect to back soon to a campsite after 40 years. We just bought a vehicle that can truly pull a moderately sized trailer (up to 4,500lbs), a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that cost more than our house 30 years ago .

Planning on getting a 6 person no frills (no bathroom, etc.) pop up. May even buy our neighbors used one. Maybe they will let us borrow it for a weekend to see how it works.

Currently we tent camp and with no garage its a pain pulling everything down from the attic.

I hate to say it, but I kinda appreciate the higher site prices so it helps to discourage the folks who stay off site and get a throw-away site or room for the onsite benefits. Can you imagine if the sites were $30-40 a night? We'd never get in and it would never have more than a handful of real campers in it. But I don't mean to bring up a sore subject or bet the horse that is dead 100 times over...just looking at the upside of expensive sites

WOW, and we were looking to come down in a small class B camper mid March. We hadn't been going to a Disney resort in a few years bc we have 2 small dogs now and had a hard time getting someone to watch them. Last time I stayed in a Moderate resort it wasn't that high. I can see your point of it not being $30-$40 a night but when I want to come it looks like it's $130-140 a night, that's ridiculous! Holy cow. I can stay in the Sheraton with my pets for free on points. Dang. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

Last time I stayed in a Moderate resort it wasn't that high.

In that same Mousesavers website the rates for The Caribbean Beach Resort (a moderate hotel on property) shows $237 weekday and $260 weekend for the lowest type of room in March 2015. I guess everything is going up (except my paycheck that is. )

March is peak season, here in FL it is spring break all schools and all colleges are spread out for spring break. Plus the northern states will have spring breakers here too.

Now that I learned about the whole throwaway room thing I can understand why no discounts etc. I want a preferred site. I think it's kind of crazy to allow 10 people on a site never saw that many allowed before at a campground. My sites are expensive but really excited about booking.

I think the prices are justified and as they should fluctuate with peak seasons. You get what you pay for and FW is a gem! I would rather stay at FW than any other Disney Property. My kids and myself would go crazy being trapped in a hotel room with a parking lot view.

Good point. That would be another approach, to charge per adult beyond two and per kid beyond two or three. We've certainly been to places that charge for kids period. And state parks we've been to certainly don't allow 10 per site. 10 is a large amount of people and I would think that a family of 10 would want more space and get two sites anyway.

All depends on when you go. We just got back from 2 weeks at the Fort, checked in day after Halloween, we paid 82.00 night for a tent site. Expensive, yes but like a lot are saying well worth it.
