I never see anyone post much about the high tea at Palo...is that one of those little secrets, like the deck 7 aft verandah?! I'm amazed that I've seen so little about it because it was one of my favorite experiences on the cruise!!
We will be posting the menu and photos of the food soon, but basically it was delicious little sandwiches (egg salad, cucumber & cream cheese, salmon & cream cheese, and curried chicken) along with scones & cream plus two jams that I could have eaten alone with a spoon, chocolate eclairs, and an English trifle to top it all off. The tea is not in bags. Rather, there are tea leaves in the pot and you pour it through a strainer. This is the way my grandma used to make chamomile tea, so it brought back wonderful memories to have it that way. Hubby had the cinnamon tea, which would definitely have been my second choice. There is no extra charge for this event. I saw that one person left cash for their server, but we had none with us so I brought up a phone card later. We didn't do this on our Eastern in Jan. of 2001, and I'm very sorry we missed it...it's a real keeper!

It wasn't too much of a secret on the cruise I took May 01. We got brunch and dinner at Palo's but tea was totally booked and we got there about 1/2 hr after they started taking reservations. Will not miss next year though.

Isn't this wonderful?? It isn't the Grand Floridian, but what a beautiful tea. My Mom, Meg and I went and had a great time with the servers (I know some of them) and they had us in stitches. It is usually much quieter, but just as nice. :)

What type of clothing is typically worn to the tea? Or brunch at Palos?

Is the high tea available on the 4 day or is it just the 7 day? Sounds like a grand time.

Kathleen :)

We ADORED High Tea! It was the only time we made it to Palo's, since we weren't certain of what DD7 would think of the Oceaneer's Club. (Silly us! We will definetely have Brunch and Dinner next cruise!)

We frequent Cape May, NJ often to stay at the Victorian Bed & Breakfasts and really enjoy "taking tea"! Palo's had the BEST scones! Our server overheard me say to my DH,"The trifle was good, but those were the best scones in the world!", so she brought us another plate! Of course, I couldn't insult her, so we HAD to eat them!:p

Dress was neat-casual. I wore a sundress & DH wore khakis, polo shirt, and navy blazer - but the blazer wasn't necessary.

ENJOY!:)

I wore the same as Singing Mom, a sundress.

And Kathleen, it is currently only offered on the 7-night, but who knows if they might decide to offer it on the alternate 4-night cruises that don't include Freeport.

Cathy - how old was Meg when she went to High Tea? I'll be about a month short of 18 and I love tea and would love to try this.. I was wondering if my age would be questioned - people tend to think I'm older than I am anyway, if that makes any difference.

CC? Just trying one more time before I PM you. :)
