This is admirable. But I can't help but think of Fran Crippen dying in an open water competition after telling his coach he didn't feel good. I agree with the never give up attitude but there should also be caution advised to know when TO give up.

I agree that an athlete's health is paramount - it's a fine line that race staffers have to walk re:when to 'stop the race' for a string-willed competitor - but in this case there were people/medical personnel standing-by and then immediately assisting her right after she got across the finish line.

It is sad about Crippen.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but honestly, it freaks me out a little bit. I admit there is some history behind the way I feel, but I would have preferred they took her straight to an ambulance. Even young healthy athletes can have unknown medical issues. She was so clearly "not all there" by the time she collapsed. That just really bothered me.
