My bed was getting a little, well, tired but I really couldn't afford a new mattress (at least not the quality that I wanted). Instead, I did a bunch of research and ended up buying a High Density Memory Foam mattress topper (3 inches thick). It isn't a Tempurpedic (brand name) mattress, but is the same quality. It's a Sensa. I love love love it. So do my kids--they want to watch TV or nap on my bed all the time now!! I feel like I have a brand new mattress. I bought it for $150 shipped off of ebay (from a dealer, brand-new.) I've seen the same one on retail sites for $200 or more, plus shipping. My best friend has one, as do her parents, and we all love it. Thought this might be helpful to someone. Anyone else have one?

Just a tip for those thinking of getting one--read up on them. You'll probably have to order one, I checked out the memory foam toppers available in stores, and they were all vastly inferior to the one I bought. I can't recommend one of these enough, particularly for those of us with back problems. I love getting into my bed now. :)

Is that the thing that molds to your body? I think I saw a infomercial where they said it was created or tested by NASA or something? My boyfriend wants one of these so bad, but we thought you had to order the entire mattress not just a pillow top.

Glad you like your Sensa topper. Sounds like a good compromise from buying the entire mattress. We bought a Tempurpedic mattress 3 years ago, and have slept wonderfully on it ever since. Great comfort while still providing good support. I also like the fact that two people can sleep together on it and it doesn't "sag" in the middle. Yes, it was expensive, but very much worth it for us!

Is this the same one they show on the infomercials? I've been seeing it at like 6am. The one they've been advertising says buy 1 get 1 free and they start at $100 for full-size. I've been wanting to get one too because even though our matress was great for about a year, it got wore out fast...I guess that happens when you have two kids that love playing on your bed for some reason.

Just wondering.
We need a new mattress and dh thinks ours sags in the middle. I don't think it does.
Do you put the topper on top of the orginal mattress?
If so would dh still be to feel a sag?
How much did it cost at Sam's?

CBR, yes, this is the one that molds to your body and was tested by NASA (I'm not sure if Temperpedic has exclusive rights to the NASA claim or not). It is almost like it is cradling or hugging your body when you sleep. The better quality foam keeps its shape for a while after you get up....my kids think it is a riot that they can roll into the "hole" left behind by me when I get up (but then it adjusts, and goes back to its normal shape).

Sandy, when I do finally upgrade my mattress, I plan to buy a memory foam king size. They are pricey, but I have no doubt whatsoever it will be worth it. I, too, noticed a HUGE difference in bed sagging/movement with 2 people in the bed.

We bought the entire bed (we needed a new bed rally bad)
I can't beleive how high it is, plus I like that fact that I don't disturb my DH, as I am a restless sleeper. It has made a world of differance for my DH who has a very bad back (slipped disks and degenerative disks), the only thing I don't like about it is that I find it to be extra warm in the summer. But than I am usally hot all of the time. (LOL) I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a real comfortable bed.

Here is what is printed on the mattress:
Sensa Pedic Temperature Smart Memory Foam
*Developed by Nasa Scientist for our Astronauts
*Self adjusts to your body's shape and temperature
*Mid-Body support buit into the system
*Offer pressure reduced sleep comfort
*Fill the natural curves of you body
*A unique balance between support and comfort

We didn't have that option when we replaced our mattress last year. We were sleeping in a twenty year old water bed, it was time for it to find a new home--in the dump! We didn't want another water bed, and when we went looking for a mattress, we fell in love with the high density foam ones. We bought a Sealy Reflexions king set. Absolutely incredible, the best nights sleep we've ever had. We're biting the bullet and buying a second set for the Florida house, it's just too comfortable to not do so!

Keep in mind that anything made of latex foam should be kept away from all heat sources and flames. So no smoking (if you do), candles, space heaters, or anything else like taht should be anywhere near a latex foam mattress or mattress topper. They are highly flamable and highly combustible.

We've also found that it retains body heat more than any other type of bedding, so you might not need that heavy comforter anymore.

We got one 2 weeks ago and really love it!!! :bounce: It was actually on sale at Boscov's for 50% off!!!! (that makes for an even better night's sleep!!:teeth: )

Aurora, I am not sure if they are the same ones, as the only infomercials I've seen are for Tempurpedic beds and those are considerable more expensive than $100!

One thing I did learn is that you want to know the density of the foam, meaning the weight per cubic foot. If a foam topper does not tell you the density, than it probably is a low-density, and therefore lower quality, foam. If I remember correctly, most of the things I read about the foam stated you should look for 4 lb./cubic foot density or higher.

The other thing you want to keep in mind is you or your partner's sleeping habits. Tummy sleepers don't require as thick a mattress topper as side or back sleepers. So if one of you is a side/back sleeper, you'd want to get the thicker topper. (I think they come in 1", 2", 3" and 4".)

Padre, I'm not sure about the sagging. Thankfully, my mattress didn't sag, it just seemed to have worn thin on the top, my guess is by being crushed down after years of sleeping! You do place the pad directly on the mattress. I put a fitted sheet on my mattress, then the topper, then the mattress pad, and then another fitted sheet. Its a bit of a tight fit, but it does fit and so far my sheets have never slipped off. If I had to guess, I would guess that you would still feel a sag, since the topper would dip into the sag....but I don't really know.
