High blood pressure & thrill rides?

Hi! My father has struggled with high blood pressure in the last year but it now seems to be under control with medication. He has always loved Space Mountain, so I'm wondering since his bp is under control is it okay for him to ride this and other thrill rides?

He should ask his attending physician......but if his HBP is under control with Meds...he should have no problem!

I have HPB nad it has never affected my aility to ride the rides! BUT- you should still ask!

I would ask his Dr. rather than a CM. His Dr will know what is normal for your father and give him good advice. A CM, is going to be very conservative and may advise you father not to ride when it would indeed by safe for him. I think, his BP being under controll is the key.

I will echo the suggestion of checking with his Doctor. However, my doctor told me that since my BP is under control with medication, I don't have to worry about it.

I have done all of the Disney rides when my BP was still not under control, when it was under good control, and even when I was a bit over medicated. I was fine.

Of course, the over-medicated thing was not so good. But that is another story.

Actually, I've had high blood pressure for 20 years and have never had a problem. I notice certain things will elivate my pressure and I know what I feel like when it's up. greasy and salty foods, very hot weather etc. can really set me off. Just make sure he's checked with his physician, has his meds. refilled and HAS FUN!

I too have High Blood Pressure. I have it under control w/ meds. I have never had a problem. But to be safe, it is always in his best interest to check with his doctor.

I have been taking meds for six years and BP is very controlled. I have monitored it at different times, i.e. my dad was dying, fight with hubby, upset about one of the kids, etc. and it has never been an issue so the rides seem to be okay for me. But I too would check with your doctor.

My DH has high blood pressure and has been on meds for several years. He has had no problems on any of the rides including The Hulk at the "other" park!!

Of course check with Dr. My DH had a heart attack 3yrs ago and is on meds for heart and BP. He went on Space Mtn. and Splash Mtn. without any problems. His theory is that he drive the NJ Turnpike everday to work - what could be worse than that.

Whew!! Thanks for all your responses. I feel so much better, and I will definitely make him ask his doctor. I'm such a worrywart (sp?) and didn't want to insult him by suggesting that he not ride his favorite ride! Thanks again.
