HIFS questions

The last time we went to disney 5 yrs ago there were only 4 of us and we stayed at the Port orleans, found it very handy to go back for naps and such. This time there are 6 of us and was thinking HIFS, with the breakfast buffet and a great entertainment rate it loooks like the way to go. My questions: How long does it take to use the shuttle, do they make periodic trips to the parks for pick up or do you have to preset a time to meet them. How would it work to go back for a nap, when the little one get cranky? We were not planning on a rental car whats your opinion? Last time that was the best part of the vacation not dealing with any of the stress of driving. What are the parking rates if we do drive?

I found the shuttle schedule quite restricting and felt the need for a rental car and will have one when we return.
