Hi everyone!! I have questions about a few off site places. I just spent a couple of days reading all the posts since last year. , We are a family of 6 and this will be our 7th trip to WDW but the first off-site. The hotels I am considering are HIFA, Vistana Village, Caribe Royale and possibly Doubletree DD.

I thought I decided on HIFA but in reading many posts I am worried about the upkeep and cleanliness. I have read that the tunnel and slide reeked of urine. The pool toys weren't working, food was cold. Is this still the case?

What about the other choices? How well mantained are they?

When we were there in August, the food was very hot, the area was clean and the pool was great :).

Have fun wherever you decide to stay.

Thanks for the reasurence. I just finished booking hifs and then did a search on the boards and read some of those bad posts. The good ones far out weighed the bad but I guess I just freaked out. This will be my first time off property and I am a little nervous. :)

You won't be disappointed with HIFS :).

We also just made plans to stay there again on our next trip!

Have fun!

I've stayed at three and I'd rate:

Vistana #1

Caribe #2

HIFS #3

Sorry to disagree with the above posters!

We are a family of 7. We stayed in a two bedroom unit at Caribe Royal 2 years ago. The unit was very spacious, nicely decorated, very clean and the pools were beautiful. If I wasn't going to stay onsite I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We stayed in HIFS in July 2001 and I never saw anything that wasn't clean, inside or out. They did a great job cleaning the room every day and never smelled anything funky, and I have a picky nose!!:p

Hi,

We just returned from HIFS this afternoon. We did not have any problems the place was in good repair and clean. The food was always hot or cold as it was intended.

Housekeeping did a very nice job of cleaning our room everyday and all the staff was very friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed having the seperate bedrooms. The kids went to bed about 9:00 and we did not have to sit in the dark until they were asleep or go to be so early ourselves.

I also liked having a microwave and small refrigerator in the room it was great for freezing bottles of water to take to the parks and late night popcorn.

Hope this helps.

Personally, I don't think you should be trying to choose between HIFS and Vistana Villages. The HIFS is fine but remember, it is a Holiday Inn. The furnishings and surroundings reflect the amount paid. Vistana Villages is a superior timeshare operated by Sheraton. Their main shortcoming, that keeps it from being a deluxe resort is the lack of quality food and beverage facilities.
Both resorts have a wow factor - HIFS with younger children and the Villages with almost everyone else. When we stayed at the Villages for 2 weeks in November, we found ourselves always amazed at the surroundings. From the superior gardening and entrance to the amazing lobby (especially when decorated for Christmas) and the quality furnishings and extra touches in decorating. Check out the photos available on the web - every room is amazing.

Don't forget if budget is an issue, a full size fridge, stove, coffee maker, etc. etc. can keep the budget down. For those who don't believe in cooking on vacation, heat and serve requires little effort and is generally a better quality then many fast food restaurants.
