I would like to have the kids do a scavenger hunt looking for hidden mickeys at DL. Could someone tell me where I could find a list of the ones in the parks and possible the DL hotel? TIA
Well, that is part of the fun of finding Hidden Mickeys - no one knows exactly where ALL of the Hidden Mickeys can be found.
First of all, you have to start with the basics. There is a book called "
Disneyland's Hidden Mickeys" by S.M. Barrett. It is thin, so it can easily be carried in your purse or backpack, etc. as you make your way around DLR. You can find it easily on
Amazon, and it is fairly cheap. That book will tell you of many of the "official" and confirmed (by Disney Cast Members) Hidden Mickeys around both parks and all three hotels, as well as in Downtown Disney. However, they will not reveal where most of the Hidden Mickeys are.
This book only scratches the surface. It basically just gives you an idea of what kinds of things to look for when hunting for Hidden Mickeys, and to keep an open mind because you may find them in everyday items as long as you are in the DLR. Some of them can be very tiny; some can be very obvious Hidden Mickeys; some are kind of abstract and almost 'accidental-looking' Hidden Mickeys; some are so well blended into fabrics (like in the carpeting at the DLH) and other patterns that you really have to stare for a long time at them. The Hidden Mickeys can be found on and inside rides and ride vehicles. They can be on rocks or plants. They don't all have the standard front view of Mickey's face - some of them have profiles or maybe just the silhouette of ears. Some of them are meant to look rough and unfinished and leave you guessing as to whether or not it is a real Hidden Mickey, and some of them are unmistakable. Look everywhere. Keep your eyes and mind open. Look on walls, on ceilings, on floors. Look in bathrooms, in parking lots, on dishware. Look in restaurants, in foliage (check out the Mickey cactus in Frontierland), in shops, on signs everywhere, on lampposts - all over DLR. Once you spot some really well-hidden or out-of-the-way ones, you will begin to think that you see Hidden Mickeys (of Hidden Goofys, Donalds, Plutos, Minnies, etc. in everything - whether you do or not!
And check out this Hidden Mickey website (link below) - it gives you a good idea of what kinds of things to look for (lots of the 'unconfirmed/unofficial' Hidden Mickeys not listed in the book) at DLR:
