Hi!!

Just wanted to introduce myself. Im Jocelyn and have been lurking around on the camping boards for a while. My hubbie and I are toying around with camping at FW this May. Anyone do a split stay there? We are thinking 5 nights camping 5 nights POP. We will be tent camping and DH doesnt think he can handle all 10 nights in a tent!:rotfl: We have 2 DD aged 4 and 7. We are not new to camping, have been since we were both little and always in a tent! Just not sure if it is worth it to haul all the camping stuff and only stay 5 nights KWIM?? Also we will be driving from Canada (only 32 hours:scared1: )

Any tips and answers would be appreciated!
Have a Disney day!!

Jocelyn

hello - and welcome.

we have done the split stay thing before and we are thinking about doing it again this year.

in the past (before 9/11) we camped at FW (in our pop up - i can't hack a tent, bad back.) and then stayed a few nights at one of the All Stars. At that time we were permitted (we checked before arrived and upon arrival and confimed again at check out) to leave our pop up in the FW parking lot for the 4 days we spent at the other resort. we came back the AM of out last day at WDW and hooked it up and drove off.

we are hoping to do the same this year. (5 days at FW, 5 days at POR or CS). i will be calling to see if we can leave the camper in FW's parking lot or if we can put it somewhere in the lot of the resort we will be ending our vacation at.

in my personal opinion, it is very worth hauling the camping stuff. if you love camping, FW is pretty much the end all and be all of campgrounds.

We have stayed at several Value resorts and one Mod resort over the last few years and i am quite honestly not thrilled with the experience. i much prefer the feel of my WDW trips when i stay (at least part of the time) at FW.

Goodness on that 36 hour ride. we have 18 and i thought that was harsh.

Thanks for your response!

My girls really love camping and I have told them all about the pool and the campfire and outdoor movies! They really want to try and so do I quite frankly!
I think we will go for it!

The only thing I would say is do the hotel portion of your visit first.

Two reasons.

You may love the Fort so much, you don't want to leave and it will be all booked up and you'll HAVE to go over to that hotel.

The other reason if your stuff is even slightly wet when you pack it up, then it will be almost 8 days before you can get it home and dry it out. (Ewwww). (5 days at resort, almost 3 days of driving).

don't get them too fired up about the FW pool. not much to brag about, just a regular old pool. (the one at pop however is kind of cool. no water slide, but still fun. the 4 YO and possibly even the 7 YO would like the pop jet area near the main pool at pop.)

the campfire part of the campfire/movie nightly is fun but can get crowded around the fire. keep an eye on the kiddies. since you are camping and you might be making a food run anyway, pick up some smores makings to bring along as well as your camping 'mallo roasting sticks. they do sell a kit with stick and a few smores makings at the campfire, but they are big $ for the little you get.

good luck planning.

Thanks for all the info!

Clkelley..I ddint think of the dampness of our stuff, good thinking!:thumbsup2

loriandmatt..my kids arent too fussy about pools, whatever goes!! They would be happy just with the fact that there is a pool!:goodvibes Thanks for the tip about the smores. We love them and always have stuff for them around...kinda obsessed!:rotfl:
