Hello - just found this excelemt looking forum.

I am looking to go to Disneyland Paris at the end of MAy - I have a few questions!

Which is better - Hotel New York or Newport Bay - but the Newport Bay with building works going on? It has to be one of those two.

Ihave two kids aged 9 and 4.

Also, is it best to go on weekday or weekend? :confused3
Any budget tips would be good too plz!

Welcome to the DIS Sooziebabes!! :wave2:

The New York is defintely the better hotel out of the two - bigger rooms and bathrooms and offers services such as room service. It is also a slightly closer walk to the parks. But many people are put off by the decor and tend to prefer the lightness of the Newport Bay. Both hotels are very nice and very comfortable.

Definitely best to visit on weekdays if you can - the weekends are always busy. That said, if you are planning to visit at half term I'm not sure how much difference there will be then. It wil probably still be slightly less busy during the week, as I don't think there are any French holidays at that time.

My best budget tip is not to buy any souvenirs!! :teeth:

I have stayed at HNY twice and love it..can not compare to Newport bay as we have never stayed there as the theming does not appeal to me.

I don't know if you're interested in doing the Good Morning Fantasyland Breakfast - but that is only available to you if you stay at the Newport Bay.

good point..could be a bonus if the park is busy :)

Another :thumbsup2 for mid week visit rather than weekend if you have the option.

Thanks everyone!

I think we've decided on the New York - not too worried about the character breakfasts really.

We're going to go on the 24th May for two nights, on Eurostar. Exciting!

That's right. But it does mean that you can get into the park before opening time.

Think you've made the right choice with HNY, not stayed there but always wanted to.
As for NPB, i've stayed there twice and not been overly impressed really.
Sure its a nice looking hotel, but there seemed to be an almost lack of cleanliness in the rooms, prefered staying in HSL for less money :)

Have a nice time in HNY :goodvibes:

We stayed at the NPB in March and I couldn't fault it, every bit of the hotel I saw was exceptionally clean and immaculate. The refurbishment work didn't cause a problem.
I would choose the Admiral's Floor though for the room service and other little extras, but be aware it is an extremely large hotel, with conference facilities and I have heard the breakfast can be extremely chaotic because of this, not something we had to worry about because of the Admiral's floor priviledges.
Personally I prefer the theming of the NPB to the New York and my boys 7 and 12 loved the nautical theme. :goodvibes

Have fun, whatever you decide. :)

Have only stayed at the Newport Bay. The room was beautifully themed and immaculate (Admirals floor)and we had room service. But if we go again my DH wants to stay in the New York he liked the theming and it is closer to Disney Village.

We were very impressed by the New York, especially the breakfast! Plus not far to walk to get to the parks. :thumbsup2

I think the only way to save money is on food and its not so easy. First of all you'll be doing more exercise than usual and need enough calories to keep up. I think the best thing is to plan ahead for meals. Also, I found in and around paris in general that people don't seem to snack which helps cut down on the food bill. In disney in america in the hotel shops they have bread, peanut butter, bagels, milk, cereal which could be used to hold you over between meals. In our hotel at least, there were only chips and chocolate. One idea is before I left at night, I picked up a snack and water along main street before I left the park. Even "fast food" type meals tend to add up, a pizza and a drink were usually about 9-10 euros which for the three of us was almost 30 euros for lunch. There is a web site describing all the meals and actually showing pictures which includes menus.

Laying off the merchandise can help too, sometimes I let them shop all they want but allow only one item. Maybe a promise of something special from home instead.
