I have done figuring and can buy Annual Passes and stay 2 nights longer if we stay at one of the Downtown Disney Hotels or Holiday Inn Family Suites. The ones Downtown that I am looking at are the Mariott and Best Western. Has anyone stayed at any of these that can give me advice?

We have our own vehicle and with APs parking will be free at the parks and we also like to do other things in Orlando.....

Any advice? Also any other hotels in the area that are nice with a good price???

Thanks everyone!

We stayed in the Best Western near Downtown Disney in Oct 2000. It was fine, not overly exciting, most the time we were there we were asleep, so it didn't really matter!! The pool was small, but any time we used it we had it to ourselves, so size didn't matter. No Disney theming, we were so tired each evening we didn't care. Clean, functional, everything worked. There were 13 of us altogether and we had 4 rooms beside each other. Balconys were small but great to have, and we could see the fireworks at night in Epcot.

Here is a link to a review I read at the time http://wdwig.com/faq_lbv.htm Actually we were there 10 days, and found the shuttle service to the parks great, never waited longer than 10 mins, except once for 20 mins for Animal Kingdom. Maybe we were just lucky. We were either last or 2nd last on the pick up run of the Downtown Disney hotels, but it did take longer on the way back as bus dropped off at 4 or 5 other hotels first, still we didn't mind.

It is only a 10 minute walk to either Crossroads Shopping Centre or Downtown Disney in the other direction. I loved being close to Downtown Disney, we went down there every night, it was great being in walking distance. Hope this is some help.

I've just noticed that at the end of the review URL I gave you that there is a comment from someone regarding time share sales being pushed on them. During our 10 day stay in Oct 2000 in the Best Western, I did not have anybody approach me or ring me or see any of this going on.

We bought our passes for the parks in the lobby of the hotel, and were also able to hire a mini-bus and driver for a day to go to Kennedy Space Center.

I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Dowtown Disney a couple of years ago. Like every Marriott property, it was clean and adequate. The hotel is small and I found it a bit old (it was not originally a Marriott).

I have also stayed at the Grosvenor Resort and it was ok. Another older property, but it's bigger than the Marriott.

There is a hotel nearby, Lake Buena Vista Suites, that although it's not in Downtown Disney, offers great prices and clean suites at reasonable prices. The hotel is on the corner of 536 and 535, which is right at the mouth of a Disney roadway taking you to all the parks. I think you can make a reservation through Dreams Unlimited on that one, but I'm not sure.

Beth, we stayed at Courtyard By Marriot about 6 years ago, and as long as you have your own transportation it is nice. Wouldn't recommend using their bus service to WDW, but the hotel itself is nice.:D

We stayed last fall at the BW. Personally, I think it's a great hotel because A) we don't spend much time in the hotel, and B) it's location with regards to DTD and the Epcot area is great, since we spend most days in the Epcot/MGM/TL arena, and most nights at the AC.

I think the hotel has actually improved since Anne Marie stayed in 2000, with complete renovations in the lobby and commons area. They have a great breakfast buffet at a great price, the bar is nice. The pool we found really nice, but being there in September we were only sharing it with ten people, max, at a time. I made a mental note that if the place was at capacity and there were fifty people out there, it wouldn't cut the mustard, size wise.

Toppers, the restaurant on top of the hotel that we really wanted to see, was shut for renovations. I'd be interested in someone posting how that turned out. We found no hassle from the Timeshare people. They did approach us once, and I made it quite clear to them that repeated attempts would not only fail to sell a timeshare presentation, it would result in massive verbal abuse (all said with a smile, of course!).

A major suggestion: Ask for a DTD view, preferably above the 7th floor. You can clearly see Illuminations from the balcony, peak at Pleasure Island at night, and with something with a zoom lense, you can look at the Comtemporary and Space Mountain (the Contemporary blocks your view of the rest of MK). And if at all possible, get a corner room. Due to the odd shape of the hotel, the corner rooms had about a third more balcony.

The rooms are worn, but clean and big.

If you're into hanging out and taking in the "resort atmosphere," it doesn't cut it. But for an inexpensive, decent place to sleep with adequate amentities and a great location, it's a pretty good deal.

One more thing....

If you don't have your own car with you, rent one. The DTD transporation can be frustrating. It's much easier to drive to the parks, all of which are within five minutes, give or take for traffic.

Have you thought about using Priceline. I am a big proponent of priceline. I have stayed in places and taken vacations that I never would have done before thank to priceline. You have to do your homework but I've always had really good luck and things have always turned out well.

I've stayed at the Hilton in Downtown Disney 3 times before checking into our WDW resort. All 3 times I got it bidding through Priceline for 60-70.00.

I like the Hilton, you can walk(5minutes) to DTD right across the street. The staff was great, the rooms very clean and they have 2 great hot tubs surrounded by lush landscaping I love.

If you go to this board it lists all the hotels showing up on Priceline at each star level.

There have actually been reports of people even getting the Dolphin on there for around 75.00 but I've always ended up with the Hilton.

Thank you all so so much for the replies. I'm hoping for an AP rate at Coronado for September but if that doesn't come through I will definatly be looking at one of these. It will be myself, my husband, my mom and our 11 year old so big rooms are definatly a plus!

Thanks so much for that link. I've heard rave reviews about Priceline but have always been a great big chicken...LOL! I'm afraid I'll get in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway thanks you all!!!!!

Beauty, we stayed at the Courtyard last year and are doing so again this year. We love the location, we love the nightly "Manager's Reception" and we LOVE the price. We got the $20.03 Monday-Thursday rate, and the AAA rate for Friday and Saturday. I wonder if there are any more nights at that rate during your stay? You'll need to call the hotel directly during the day (check the Courtyard website for the phone number. ) Nothing fancy, but serviceable and the staff is AWESOME! Hope that helps!
