:wave2: Hi there, new to the boards! I am a huge Disney fan and am glad to find communities of like-minded people. ;) I have been lurking around, reading trip reports and getting some great tips.

My DH and I have five children and one on the way, so a trip to Disneyland takes a lot of planning and saving for us, especially since we want to make sure we can stay for 6 days next time we go. :woohoo: So our next visit isn't going to be until next Feb (2013), but I am already planning excitedly. :yay:

We are also a large family and we to to Walt Disney World at least once per year. The absolute cheapest way for a large family to stay on-site is to get 2 connecting rooms at a value resort with a free dining discount. We now roate all of our yearly trips around free dining promos. We usually stay for 8 nights and do 7 day tickets. For the last couple of years they have been offering the Quick Service Dining Plan with the free dining promos, but we pay the few hundred dollars to upgrade to get the Basic/Plus Dining plan - 1 Table Service/Character meal, 1 Counter Service/Fast Food Meal and 1 Snack per person per day. This is a huge money saver, saves us about $1,200.00. We can usually go for about $3,200.00. Of course, since this is your first trip, you won't really need the park hopper option, so that could save you another few hundred dollars. Anyway, here's a link to all the free dining discount info and historic dates:

We have 5 kids too - Free Dining is a discount lifesaver! Hoping to get again for our December trip :-)
