I went last night and did five houses. Based off my runs, this is my grades. Keep in mind, things change from opening night and sometimes you like a house more or less after going through it a 2nd time.
Insidious 8.5/10
Body Collectors 9/10
RUN 4/10
The Purge 6/10
An American Werewolf in London 8/10

So far I've done every house except AWIL and at least walked through each of the Scare Zones. Also saw B&T and Jack's show.
Houses:
The only real dud, IMO, was RUN. Body Collectors, Asylum and Jack Presents 25 Years of Monsters & Mayhem were my top houses. Asylum is probably the best 3-D house they've done in the years that I've been attending the event. It was wonderfully trippy and they made very effective use of their 3-D effects and technology. Insidious was good but I haven't seen the movies so I think I missed some of references. The friends I was with rated this as their top house. The Purge translated really well into a house, especially considering it was something of a last minute addition following the loss of the rights to Scream. TWD was okay but very dark. Got a few good scares there so I can't complain. FvJ was entertaining, but again, I've not watched those movies so some of the references are lost on me.
Scare Zones:
I enjoyed the Icons, Evil's Roots and Psychoscarapy and I think they'll only get better as they adjust things like fog and lighting. Screampunk Scary Tales has potential but I didn't get to spend a lot of time here. The costumes here were terrific but the Scareactors don't seem to have quite figured out how best to work their area and that should improve with time. I wasn't impressed with All Night Die In but we only caught it when the classic b/w characters were out. Unfortunately, they're located in San Francisco which never really seems to work that well for the scare zones. I'm hoping future visits will be better.
Chainsaws:
Okay, I know they got a lot of feedback that there weren't enough chainsaws the past couple of years, but this year they really seem to have gone overboard with the chainsaw action, and it didn't always fit the scare zone, IMO. It really was overkill.
Shows:
Bill & Ted was, well, Bill & Ted. Good, not great. I was a bit disappointed with the music choices for the "sexy people dancing" sections. I get what they were trying to do, but for me, it fell a little flat. Again, I think it will grow on me over time, but it isn't the instant hit that last year's version was for me.
Jack's show was good - I enjoyed the theatricality of it, however, it really was too long for a show that you have to stand to watch. I observed many guests leaving midway through the show. After all, we're spending so much time standing in queues for the houses, it would be great if both shows provided a respite for our tired footsies. The location of the stage also creates a bit of havoc with crowd flow, especially going into the Evil's Roots SZ.
Overall, a good beginning and I think HHN25 will continue to get better as the season progresses.

Where is the best place to go for the holding area this year?? We are not eating, so that doesn't matter to us.

We were there on opening night. Just remember, everyone has different taste. We made it through five houses, all of the scare zones and both shows.
Our favorites were Alice and Run. Alice is just trippy and Run is cheesey 80s goodness. If you wait in the line, there is a video giving the backstory and it is just a good time, not really scary, but fun.
We also did the Purge and this house was just really well done.
The 25th House, was amazing worth doing just for the details.
Our least favorite house was the Walking Dead, but we don't watch the show.
The Steampunk Zone was just cool with all of the characters, but not scary.
We wish we could have spent more time in the Die In, saw some late 70s and early 80s horror movie characters.
Storybrook was a little chaotic.

Only being my 2nd time at HHN, and the first being last year, part of a VIP RIP tour, I can't compare to previous years.
But, I will say Friday and Saturday were 2 of my all time favorite experiences at any park. We are locals with Annual passes to Universal so we got the Frequent Fear Plus pass so we can experience as many nights as we wish, and the AP party Saturday night was a great way to get a jump on 3 houses.
So on Friday we kind of just explored, watched the Jack show and took in all the scarezones, before leaving for the night, we did Run, and Asylum 3D.
On Saturday we went to the AP area around 4pm so we had a decent spot in the holding area, once 530 came we headed to the Walking Dead and were through the house in under 15 mins, Then over to the purge and were through in under 25 Lastly we finished Insidious in about 20. 630 was the official start time so people were already over to Insidious with us, but it was still awesome. Once darkness came fully, we explored a little more, took in the Bill and Teds show, which I strongly recommend. Too bad it can't be recorded, I'd love to look back at again today, oh well, means we'll have to make sure to see it again.
Finished the night off with the 25th Anniversary house, A werewolf in London and finally at 1250 we got in line fore Freddy Vs Jason, with a posted 55 min wait, by 130 we were walking back to Hard Rock for the night. So only The bodycollectors house was left. We probably could've done that Friday night, if we didn't have to make the drive home. but oh well, just means we'll stop there this Friday night first!
Overall it was a great way for me to experience the difference between the VIP Rip tour and just standing in line. The money for the tour is BEYOND worth it! 10/9 can't get here quick enough, so we can do the tour again this year "homies"

Does anyone know what the wait time for Gringotts was during the party? And is the rest of DA open?

Warning, SPOILERS!
We went to HHN on Friday and Saturday. Both nights we did the AP preview. Friday we were about midway back in the crowd and went straight to The Walking Dead hoping to do Walking Dead, Purge and Insidious before the park opened. Yeah, that didn't happen! We had to wait 45 minutes for The Walking Dead! So much for a head start...By the time we got done with The Walking Dead and walked the mile back to the park the Purge was a 45 minute wait. We barely got through the Purge and made it to the first show of Bill and Ted. The crowd was ridiculously backed up getting into the theater due to the AP event. They didn't let the crowd in until about 5 minutes before the show started for some reason. Unfortunately the show started before half the people were in the theater. Luckily though we got to our seats right as it started. After Bill and Ted everything had 45+ minute waits (Freddy vs Jason and Insidious were over 90min). Since we knew we were going to the event Saturday and with Express we decided to walk around the scare zones. We ended up catching all the scare zones, Jack's show, Monsters and Mayhem, Body Collectors, and Run.
Saturday we went to the AP Preview again but decided to do Purge first so we could get to Insidious before the park opened. This time we waited about 20 minutes for Purge and Insidious. MUCH better use of the event! We were able to get to the front of the park and do Werewolf before the crowds got too bad without using Express. Once out of Werewolf crowds picked up and we had to start using our express. We did every house with express and every scare zone.
Reviews with SPOILERS:
HOUSES:
Monsters and Mayhem: Fans of HHN rejoice! This house is purely for the fans! The house is a little disjointed if you don't know much about previous HHN but even if you don't know the events represented it is still a great house. Lots of good scares, amazing sets, and its LONG. Best scares come from the random Jack's in the house that jump out randomly. Great use of mirrors throughout as well. Be sure to hang back at the end of the house to watch some fun final scares! Maybe a little heavy on chainsaws though.
Run: The first run through was good, our second run through was 'meh' at best. LOVE the concept, LOVE the facade and first room but after that the house becomes kind of disjointed. We did get to tour this house during the day Sunday. I wish I had done the tour before the event. Now that we know the backstory of the countries and show it makes MUCH more sense. The que video was cool but thought it would have been better to focus on the different countries to set the tone for the house instead of the show in general. Lots of people seemed confused by this house, and I don't blame them. Be sure to look up inbetween scenes at the scrolling signs, they really help explain the story of what is going on but they are easy to miss. Also, this house has the BEST cast change. All the scare actors are paraded by the line and each country is carrying their flag. Nice little touch.
Freddy Vs. Jason: Really a great intense house. Jason is intimidating and Freddy pops out of random places and gets right in your face. Loved that there are 2 facades. The last third of the house is the battle. Difficult to tell the victor though unless you get the final scare. Video screens were not as cool as I thought they would be.
Body Collectors: WOW! Hands down best facade! Best sets through out actually! We got lucky and saw the spinal rip cast change, really a neat process and a 'show' in its own right and very well thought out to not disrupt the flow and illusion. Really great scares here and had the best finale of the year.
Werewolf: The wolves are incredible and made me jump even though I knew where they were. The noise and fluid movement was overwhelming for a lot of people. However, nothing is really new here other than the puppets.
Alice: Not scary but wow is it a trippy adventure! Best use of the spinning tunnel, REALLY disorienting. The sets and characters are weird, but aren't they suppose to be? Wish there was more asylum mixed in instead of just at the end. Fun ending too. Only got to do this house once but really wish we could have gone through multiple times.
The Walking Dead: Very 'meh' house. The walkers in water was WAY over hyped! I didn't even see the water effect the first time through the house! The first scene was great but went down hill from there. Nothing really memerable here. The sets are very tall but not overly detailed. Fans of the show will probably like it but for me (who doesn't watch the show) it was just ok. Worth doing but not really worth repeating (and we did it twice just to make sure, yeah didn't change our minds from the first run).
Purge: Actually was surprised by this house. Was totally not expecting a lot from this one and was pleasantly surprised. The sets were lacking but the cast was GREAT! They really create a sense of chaos and high energy. Lots of good scares. I got shot like 5 times through out the house. The facade is simple yet effective and enhanced by the purge announcement and first room of video screens. This all sets the tone well. Overall nothing was very memorable other than the high energy and overall chaos.
Insidious: WOW! Talk about a CREEPY house! Lots of good scares, lots of good sets, lots of shiver moments. Very popular house so get to this one early. This house is hard to describe why its so good but it just has this 'it' factor to it that just flows so nicely and feels like a complete package. The sets, costumes, music, lighting and scare actors all compliment each other nicely.
SHOWS:
Bill and Ted: We enjoyed it but can see why others may not. Loved the Disney jokes the best. Thought the Kanye interrupting everyone got old real fast though. Lots of quick zingers that are easy to miss through out.
Jack's Show: This show is for the fans. Lots of great illusions and gore. Not really my 'thing' but can see why it is popular. Great production value. Wish they had seats though, was a lengthy show to stand the whole time. I can see why so many love Chance, she was a fun character. The actor playing Jack did a fantastic job and hit all of his lines really well. The script was actually pretty good. Biggest gripe though was the giant saw didn't make sense to me on how it cut the actor the way it did but was a cool effect overall. Show did seem to end abruptly though. Loved all of the fire!
SCARE ZONES:
Icons: Great zone for the HHN fan. Sets were cool, but not a lot of scares. The fog and lighting was good and really set the mood. Scare actors were not really scaring people, more just walking around. Only saw one 'live kill' and that was by the Storyteller. Nice little show if you are in the right place at the right time. The Rat Lady was out here but off to the side, very easy to miss and seems like an afterthought.
Steampunk: Again, no real scares but AMAZING costumes and characters. Pinocchio was our favorite. The main set piece was cool. I thought the zone was way too small and not enough sets. Again, lots of open space. No fog either. A cool idea but not that well executed aside from the costumes.
DIE In: A fun zone but again too small. Definitely bottlenecks crowds into a small area, partially due to Run emptying into the middle of the zone. The lighting and fog were great here. The 2 casts was fun to see and a nice concept that was executed pretty well. Not a lot of scares which was a shame since there are actually good hiding spots in this zone. Again, the scare actors were just kind of walking around quickly and not really 'scaring' but more 'roaming'.
Psycoscarapy: This was a HUGE scare zone with not enough set pieces. Lots of open space but at least it was filled with LOTS of scare actors though! Great characters actually scaring people. Loved that it was difficult to tell who was a guest and who was a scare actor depending on your vantage point. Lots of times I though a guest was in front of me only for them to turn around and it was an actor. Loved the interaction between the inmates and the trick or treaters. One inmate stole the trick or treaters candy and beat them with it. Lots of neat little interactions like that occur. The burning gazebo is fun to watch explode. Don't stare too long though as you become bait for the scare actors. Never saw the costume contest though and didn't think it was the 'bloodiest' scare zone ever. In fact, didn't really see blood anywhere.
Evil's Roots: Hands down the best scare zone. LOTS of fog and a very narrow path. The scare actors used the fog and set pieces really well to scare people. The lighting with the pumpkins was eerie and the fog made it difficult to see but a few feet in front of you at some points. The costumes were great too. LOVED walking through this area!
Final thoughts: This years event is a very solid year. Even with 9 houses I don't think there was a 'bad' house. All are worth doing for different reasons. However, due to the crowds and amount of stuff to do I don't see anyone really being able to see all the houses, shows and scare zones in one night without express. Even with express it will take the entire evening to see everything. Without express we were only able to do 5 houses opening night and we were in the event from 5:30 to 12:30. We could have maybe done 7 houses at best if we pushed ourselves.

SCARE ZONES:
Icons: Great zone for the HHN fan. Sets were cool, but not a lot of scares. The fog and lighting was good and really set the mood. Scare actors were not really scaring people, more just walking around. Only saw one 'live kill' and that was by the Storyteller. Nice little show if you are in the right place at the right time. The Rat Lady was out here but off to the side, very easy to miss and seems like an afterthought.
Steampunk: Again, no real scares but AMAZING costumes and characters. Pinocchio was our favorite. The main set piece was cool. I thought the zone was way too small and not enough sets. Again, lots of open space. No fog either. A cool idea but not that well executed aside from the costumes.
DIE In: A fun zone but again too small. Definitely bottlenecks crowds into a small area, partially due to Run emptying into the middle of the zone. The lighting and fog were great here. The 2 casts was fun to see and a nice concept that was executed pretty well. Not a lot of scares which was a shame since there are actually good hiding spots in this zone. Again, the scare actors were just kind of walking around quickly and not really 'scaring' but more 'roaming'.
Psycoscarapy: This was a HUGE scare zone with not enough set pieces. Lots of open space but at least it was filled with LOTS of scare actors though! Great characters actually scaring people. Loved that it was difficult to tell who was a guest and who was a scare actor depending on your vantage point. Lots of times I though a guest was in front of me only for them to turn around and it was an actor. Loved the interaction between the inmates and the trick or treaters. One inmate stole the trick or treaters candy and beat them with it. Lots of neat little interactions like that occur. The burning gazebo is fun to watch explode. Don't stare too long though as you become bait for the scare actors. Never saw the costume contest though and didn't think it was the 'bloodiest' scare zone ever. In fact, didn't really see blood anywhere.
Evil's Roots: Hands down the best scare zone. LOTS of fog and a very narrow path. The scare actors used the fog and set pieces really well to scare people. The lighting with the pumpkins was eerie and the fog made it difficult to see but a few feet in front of you at some points. The costumes were great too. LOVED walking through this area!
Final thoughts: This years event is a very solid year. Even with 9 houses I don't think there was a 'bad' house. All are worth doing for different reasons. However, due to the crowds and amount of stuff to do I don't see anyone really being able to see all the houses, shows and scare zones in one night without express. Even with express it will take the entire evening to see everything. Without express we were only able to do 5 houses opening night and we were in the event from 5:30 to 12:30. We could have maybe done 7 houses at best if we pushed ourselves.
