If High Season at Disneyland has low attendance ..does that mean visitors are deciding to go in low season instead?

So will that eventually make low season high season?

Gas Prices...Airlines charging for bags and increases daily on flights.. hotel rooms with added on taxes and fees... park passes going up...

I was wondering... will it ..

a.} keep people from attending this year or postponing a trip.
b.} have people switching from high to low season for visits?
c.} make me look like i'm asking an Alice In Wonderland kinda question.:rotfl:

I don't think that's what it means- I think it means people are deciding not to go at all because the price is getting prohibitive and the economy's future is not looking too bright.

I hope not! We're going in the off season to avoid the crowds, but IMHO, I think less people are going on vacation and those who are going are staying near their homes. Jobs are down, there is a housing crunch and gas and airfair is getting more and more expensive. I recently heard a story on NPR that talked about how many Americans were saying "not this year" to a vacation. Therefore, I think that the low season will be the usual amount of low or it will be slower.

BUT one thing to consider: attendance at Disneyland is up from people outside the US. With the weak dollar and the time of travel, I think there may be an increase in international visitors to Disneyland in the low season. Although, I don't think this will be the record crowds one usually sees in the summer.

But that's just my take!

For our family we are going in Nov. and Mar.

I modified the Nov. trip from conceirge to downtown view as that change will nearly pay for the march trip hotel and passes.

Also I'm buying southwest giftcards each payday to help with the flights.

If I had know attendance was going to be low this summer I would have booked the family trip now as we go low season to avoid the crowds.:goodvibes

Yes I also read that about the Out of Country visitors coming to spend their higher currency.. yeahhhhhhh come spend spend...:goodvibes

How funny we go because of the low crowds:grouphug: ... not because of lower costs.
:upsidedow

keep in mind that summer time is usually when people go on vacations so of course the travel industry will try to make a kill...however, this is not going to deter crowds from coming in off season...prices are always lower in off season for everything because kids are back in school and something is always going on where one or more of the family memebers cant get a time where they can all go...I personally dont think that off season will be a slow down this year because of all that goes on in the fall with MTTP and then the christmas festivities everyone loves and on top of that they offered that great PIN discount AND the AP discount for this fall so it will be pretty busy Im sure

The pin code was one of the reasons for the second DL trip this year...and because of a little mix-up...we were able to get the GCH for the same price we would have gotten the DLH at pin price. (I have been calling this "Being Dreamed" by Disney :woohoo: )

It has me re-thinking our WDW trip for 2009...but not cancelling it...jc

i think it will be lower then high season in oct but a bit busserier then other oct maybe becosue the party. But i also have heard many many have just decied to cancle trips wait till next year and what not hoping gas is down.

I couldnt go even once a year if i tryed to fly. Bus is cheaper and really not to bad.
I think the rides this oct will be mostly walk on or 20min waits for most. besieds nemo and toystory.
I have heard alot of non usa citizens are coming this year but not just to Disney its all over the country. Becouse how much less they can spend here.
Its wierd and I dont think its fair. Something needs to be done and it will be just in time.
high seasons lowseasons this last year they havent had high crouds at all. I excpect it to stay that way this year. ppl with familys may say look we need to save for other things (christmas) or what not instead going on vacation)
I dont think the low season is gona be to high crowds

On the other hand, will some people come to DLR because it would be a cheaper vacation than something else? Like say, Hawaii or Europe?

We went this summer because it was going to be a cheap vacation. That was when we planned two days and staying at my sister's house. It snowballed into 3 days and a hotel. :rotfl:

I have also heard that outside of U.S. visitors is higher this year. I am hoping that the lower crowed levels will still stay down when we go in October. I have noticed gas prices falling in my area (finally!!!), and I live in the SF bay area, so I know others areas have to be going down. I actually found gas today for 3.99 gallon, although that was in the ghetto, where bums try to get money from you, but still, I havent seen gas under $4 for quite some time up here.

I think DLR should do another promo like they did in 2002. Child free with paying adult, or adult pays child price if no child going for free. Do you remember that?? I would be all over that promo!! Even though foreigners are increased this year, they still have record lows overall, and this would definately bring up attendance, there for bring in more $$ in shops, hotels, and restuarants.

I do hope the economy turns around, the sooner the better.

The increase is in the AP holders....

Sundays tend to be busier thatn Saturdays this summer. As the Premium AP can go 365. But the Deluxe is blacked out Summer Saturdays..

So there are also a lot of locals that go. I mean I can got for the day for $5 and that is the gas to get there. Fill up the van with 5 people. Only $1 a person and we take a lunch with us. So a day at DL costs us almost nothing. I work a 2nd job to be able to afford the passes for the kids and I. So it is worth it to us. Then we have been saving for a year for a trip to Hawaii. So we havent stopped out traveling.

I'm guessing there will be higher attendance, with all the AP's being able to go again. Gas prices are going down, it's down almost 30 cents alone since like last month here. Then there is the attraction of the holiday stuff at DL, which is always very popular. Not to mention all the people going during the offseason in hopes for low crowds! So, I have a feeling the crowds are gonna pick up.

I'm going to put my 2 cents USD into this discussion. From being a Canadian going to Disneyland in Feb/09 while the dollar being almost at par with the USD is nice, we are going because it's the last year we can go before the kids start school in Grade 1 and beyond. While I don't have an issue with pulling my older son out of Kindergarten for 2 weeks, I will not be able to do this fall next year and beyond. However that being said, due to the high cost of flying to LAX from where I live has affected as to how we will be getting there. We have decided to drive to DL instead of flying, as it's far cheaper, even when factoring in fuel, hotel and food for an extra 6 days. At least I get more value for the dollar when our currency is near par with the USD, and that means more money to spend on our trip.

nope I think thats way off base jade....ever since people got word about MTTP (formerly MHT), Oct. has been a high attendance time to go....my dd birthday is in the middle of Oct. and we used to go every single year then and it was awesome because attendance was so low that we never had to wait in line for any rides except for sat. but now that this Halloween Party is in full swing, Oct.'s are notlow attendance anymore...even though it is by disney's definition...this is my 3rd year attending MTTP and the first year it wasnt bad because nobody really knew much about it and it wasnt as done up as well as last year...but last year alot of nights sold out by end of Sept....I dont know how many times you've gone to DL during Oct. but from everything Im seeing, its going to be up there in attendance...oh and we cant rule out the conventions either...lots going on that time of year

exactly...its well known that the AP holders make up a HUGE part of DL while its not the same for wdw....wdw relies on their out of state guests moreso than here...I remember reading something some time ago and saw an astonishing figure for the amount of AP'rs that attend DL at any given day vs attendees from further distances

Attendance is all over the place right now. I was at DLR on Sunday and the parks were busy, but not what I would call crowded. Walked right on to Pirates, HM and several other attractions. Toy Story at DCA was less than 30 min wait, Screamin' was about a 10 minute wait. I went to DLR yesterday (Thursday) typically a 'slower' day, but it was much more crowded and the lines were longer. Toy Story was over almost an hour, Screamin' was 45 min, even Soarin's fast pass line was out the door.
We got lots done and had a great time. I've been to Disneyland so many times I have no problem maximizing the time I do have there. However, I was surprised that Sunday was a slower day than Thursday.

All bets are off on attendance forecasts, as far as I'm concerned. Just go and have a good time. Use all the good DIS tips. Stay cool and enjoy the magic of what you do get to experience.

Great advice and exactly what I plan on doing in a little over two months.:woohoo:

Being a DLR local, I always find the "when is it less crowded" threads give me a little bit of a giggle. Disneyland is a giant tourist attraction. Everyone wants to go and there is never a day that it is empty, yet everyone is always trying to find the "slow" days ... during summer, when the weather is terrific, and the world flocks to So. Cal.

As for attendance at the park, the economy is down. People are traveling less, driving less, spending money more selectively.

I also think the heat is keeping APs away when they might otherwise come for the day. It's been REALLY hot at DLR lately.

Dare I suggest.... plan for your schedule and just enjoy your visit. :wizard:

This post originated out of was the economy shifting a name change in the seasons, high to low and reveresed:goodvibes .

This was an interesting thread.

Thanks for posting.:thumbsup2
