Hi everyone,

Thinking of taking a Summer HHI trip. Late June, July, or early Aug. My question is, what is the weather like then? Are we looking at swealtering humid weather, or is there some relief because it is near the coast? Also, is the rain similar to WDW (in short bursts), or can it last all day. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm just going to be brutally honest w/ you - the weather during the time period you're asking about is usually horribly humid. Temps are normal summer heat - upper 80s and 90s, but it's the humidity that's oppressive. The situation with rain is not like the Florida afternoon bursts. When it rains on HHead, there's more generally a "weather system" coming through. Optimal times to go are mid-October through the end of November and early March through the end of April (except for the week of the Heritage Golf Tournament). :cool2:

Thanks for the honest answer. I wonder why HHI is such a busy place in the summer.....

Very accurate description. It's that humidity where you walk outside and you are wet, as if you just walked out of the shower.

We tried March but the kids missed out on some of their favorite activities -- shark fishing & crab fishing.

We love the summer months. We go to the beach and cool off, we go to the pool and cool off, we go in the villa and cool off. Kick back and relax. It's our best family vacation all year as it truly feels like a vacation.

We'll be there next July and we are already counting the days. :dance3:

I imagine because it's such a wonderful vacation spot for families, and that's when the kiddoes are out of school.

Thanks for all of the great feedback. If we can cool off in the pool or Ocean, we would be fine with the weather. One additional question. We have been to Florida in the summer, and quite frankly, we did not think that the Ocean or the pool were very refreshing becuase they were so warm (like bath water) Will we experience the same at HHI? Or does it's more northerly location solve this problem?

You know, I can tell you are excited about this trip, so you are going to have a great time regardless. The pools will be warm, but the Disney facility on the beach in Palmetto Dunes is a gem and will be fun for you. You can enjoy the breeze on the beach and in their large pool there. And, the humidity doesn't bother everyone equally. HHead Island is a great place to explore with lots to do. Start counting down! :cool2:

We go to HH in July, and we love it. The weather at the beach is gorgeous. There seems to always be a breeze coming down the beach. We love it. We ride bikes around HH. Yes, it's humid, but no worse than NJ in August!!!

Best of luck
Diane

Since we are in Southern California, we are used to virtually no humidity in the summer. I guess we will have to suck it up if we want to visit in there in the summer.

I think you are all right, it IS a vacation, so we should have fun regardless, additionally we will not be walking around theme parks all day.

One final question, does any one have a listing of activities held during the day, (Maybe a sample from a past trip?) I would like to see what there is for the kids to do. We have 3 kids; a 17 year old boy (likes to surf, loves the beach) and girls 4 and 2. Also my in laws would be comming.

There are periodicals that are published monthly that list activities. We will be down there for a week beginning November 1, and I'll be glad to pick up a current one for you if there's a way in which I can discreetly get it to you. The "activities activity" picks up big time in the summer and the magazine for November won't reflect that. But, it will begin to give you some idea.

The girls will have a great time....although there might be more for the 4-year old! There is not a lot of surfing at HH, because of the wide continental shelf and sandbars. The beach is about a mile or more from the Resort, and you can take the shuttle, drive, or bike over to the beach club. There is a lot of golf courses. Summer at HH is busy with families. We love it!

SusieBea,

Your feedback has been very helpful. I think we will just go for it. I appreciate the offer of the periodical. I was actually looking for a list of Disney activities. I saw a list somewhere on the net, I just cannot remember where.

Personally, I think anytime before May and after September is just too cold if you are planning to go in the ocean. We have only been to HHI twice (6 years apart) and amazingly there was a furocious thunderstorm greeting us as we drove onto the island each time.

I have an activities list from June of this year. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.
