Has anyone stayed in a studio at HH ? WE will be there over kids spring break, 2nd week of April. We are thinking of requesting a studio in the Lodge. What type of view will we be most likely to get? When should I request a certain Bldg? Also, is there a wet bar/microwave in the studio? Looking at the floor plan it looks like there is a second sink area, but I am not really sure what I am looking at.
Do we need to reserve activities ahead of time (dolphin cruise, etc.)? Is it possible to have a list of activities mailed/e-mailed to me?
Thanks for your help everyone!

We stayed in an accessible studio in Bldg 12 our first visit. It's not in the lodge, but connected to it by a balcony in front of the units and very close to the ice/laundry room. Our view was mainly trees. If the trees hadn't been there, it would have been of the marsh. If you stay in the lodge and DO NOT want a handicap accessible room, please be sure to specify that. Due to the construction requirements at HH there are no true ground floor units, so all accessible rooms are in the lodge area since there is an elevator.

You walk through the kitchenette as you enter the unit. There is a sink, microwave and mini fridge, plus some counter top space.

You can't reserve activities until you check in at the resort. The activities for the next week come out on Thursdays and we had the resort fax us a copy so that we could plan ahead and reserve right when we arrived. We have taken the dophin cruise through Disney and loved it. It was very personal, but on the expensive side ($30/person?). There are also other dolphin cruises available off property that are cheaper but on larger boats. We have done this as well and loved it too. It's really a matter of which you would prefer. Also, if you are a golfer, the resort can fax you a list of courses and prices then make the tee times for you. DH did this last trip and it was really convienient for him to just pick up everything at the check in desk.

We are going back in June and can't wait!

What was the room number of that handicapped accessible studio? We're going to HH in March, reserved a studio, and do not want handicapped accessible. Last time we were at VWL, we got one-they refused to move us-and we were not happy. Want to know, so that although we've requested "not handicapped accessible", we'll know if we get this one.

HH has a total of 21 Studios. 16 of these are in the lodge area (buildings 11,12). There are marsh view and island views (with a look towards the marsh) from those units.

Here is a report on the <a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=226883">HH resort configuration.</a>

The resort has a great choice of activities and a large recreation staff. There are also many local activities to augment those available at the resort. The resort will be happy to fax an activity report to you ahead of time.

Enjoy!

I thought I had kept the map that had our room number on it, but I can't find it now. But, I'm pretty sure it was 1221, because in 2001 we stayed in a 2 bdr in 2112 and we commented on the weirdness of the similarity.

All but five studios are in buildings 11(Live Oak Lodge) and 12. The five that are not in building 11,12 are all under grand villas.
We stayed at a studio once in the lodge, what I remember most about it is the size of the balcony, it was huge, like a square the width of your room. I've stayed in hotel rooms smaller than that balcony.
About the activities. Fee required activities(like the dolphin cruise) you can sign up as soon as you check in (maybe even before? ), the free programs you can sign up 24 hours before, that means, at 8am when sign up desk opens, you can sign up for any activities for tomorrow.
April is great time for Hilton Head. Have fun!

We have reservations for the week between Christmas and New Years and also have reserved a studio.

What is it about the handicapped accessible unit that folks don't like?

Does anyone know how many of the 21 studios are handicapped units?

Hi,
My DW and I just returned from a studio at HH. We were in the Live Oak Lodge on the third floor. Our view was mostly a tree, with a bit of the marsh to the right. The balcony is huge, with these great rocking chairs. The room was very nice, and it comes with a sink, microwave, small fridge, and toaster. Upon arriving at the resort we were a little dissapointed at how crowded the area directly around the resort was. Within a day that ceased to bother us and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was without a doubt one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had. They have great programs for adults and children. Even though we don't have kids we had a great time at the campfire program, goofy bingo, shadow's tales (he's a golden retriever and the resort "mascot"). Some of our favorite adult activities were the Hilton Head Island tour, Pinkney Island nature walk, Longview Cooking Club with Chef Gordon, Behind the ears tour, Music and Lore of the Lowcountry with B'Lou Crabbe. The staff is what makes this resort so special, we really felt welcomed by everyone. In particular I'd like to point out Chef Gordon and B'Lou Crabbe. We had arrived on Saturday afternoon after a 15 hour marathon drive, and just had time to freshen up before going to "A Private Affair" dinner with Chef Gordon. It was definitely one of the best dining experiences I've had. Chef Gordon hosts it at the beach house, and he cooks just for your party. It was a wonderful way to begin our stay. We also attended his Longview Cooking Club during our stay. He demonstrated how to prepare two delicious hors d'oeuvres and we enjoyed them with several glasses of wine. He was also our guide for Behind The Ears tour of the resort. This tour tells you about the planning and construction of the resort and points out many hidden mickey's. I think I'm getting a little long winded here so I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have. Our only dissapointment was that we had to leave:( .Hope this helps:D -Chris

I am wondering if it may be difficult for you to get a studio for that time at HH. I called in December and tried to get a studio for our spring break in March and had not luck, they didn't have a 1 bedroom either, so we took a 2 bedroom (we are only staying 2 days and we thought it would be neat to see what a 2 bedroom is like since we probably won't be using them very often).

So you may want to be prepared for larger rooms, or wait list (I didn't try that, I just wanted a room).

Good Luck,
DJ

We reserved the studio last fall, so I am sure we will get a studio. I would love to try one of the villas, but our budget allows for a studio unfortunately. Do you think it is important to request a bldg or to specify that we do not want a handicapped accessible room? I just love reading your posts, we are so excited!

Oh, sorry, I think I misunderstood. I thought you were just now requesting a studio for spring break.

I would LOVE to hear more about activities at HH. We are going next month with our 9yo twin DDs and they have ask me what there is to do there, and I have been able to tell them is that there is a beach and a pool.

Do they have a campfire every night? Do you have to sign up for that? I read in the member's book about an 'unbirthday' party. What is that?
Thanks,
DJ

The campfire is several nights a week and don't belive you have to make reservations for that. The "un" birthday party is for the kids to celebrate the 364 days that aren't their birthday. Kids play birthday type games and decorate a cupcake. You do have to reserve for this one, but I think it is just mainly so they know how many to plan for. Again, it isn't daily, but offered serveral times a week. The is also Gyotaku, which is Japensese fish painting (yes, you paint on a real dead fish) and then make a print of it on a tee-shirt. This did gross my youngest DD out a little (she was 4 at the time), but she got over it! There is kayaking, nature walks, marsh and beach adventures, horseback riding, all kinds of crafts etc. Many of these fill out quickly but are offered several times a week. I would asked the resort to fax you what the next week's activities are before you leave and then you can make reservations as soon as you check in at the resort to get what you want. My kids love HH and ask constantly when we are going back.

As far as room requests go, I would go with the more general request of a non hc room over a specific building.
