Been doing some searching but can't really find answers to my questions:

1. Is April a good time to go weatherwise? How about October? Can't decide. :confused3
2. What times of year are the bugs bad? :scared1:
3. Just me and DH, no kids. We are not really beach people (although we love the atmosphere) so the fact that it's not on the beach does not bother us. We love to stroll or just sit and watch animals and people. Do you think we'll enjoy that aspect of the resort?
4. Is it safe to walk to restaurants in the evening or is it better to drive?
5. Is there enough activities for adults?
6. For those who have taken a trip to Savannah, do you take the trolley tour?
7. Do the studios have balconies also?

Sorry so many questions, however I'm sure more will pop up. So many people have said they love the resort so I'm hoping we will get a chance to experience it ourselves....and love it, too.

You just described how DH and I spend a great deal of our time at HHI. I love sitting in back ofthe main lodge watching for dolphins. Sea Pines Forest Preserve is a great place to walk around enjoying nature. And I think either April or October would be good weather-wise, but October would probably be quieter. The other thing is yes, studios have balconies.

I have been to HHI many times so let me attempt to give you my two cents on your questions.

1. Is April a good time to go weatherwise? How about October? Can't decide.
My Response: April is a rather busy time on the island due to pro golf
events going on. Weather is beautiful but dining can be challenging.

2. What times of year are the bugs bad?
My Response: I have been there in March, April, May and June and
have not had any bug issues during any of those months. I will be
going in Sept 09 and that will be my first 'fall' type visit so I can't
speak to that yet.

3. Just me and DH, no kids. We are not really beach people (although we love the atmosphere) so the fact that it's not on the beach does not bother us. We love to stroll or just sit and watch animals and people. Do you think we'll enjoy that aspect of the resort?
My Response: HHI is a great place to stroll or just sit back and relax.
That is probably one of the main reasons we keep going back is the
relaxing atmosphere. If you like to bicycle, you can ride a bike
anywhere on the Island...even take them to dinner, most restaraunts
have bike racks out front.

4. Is it safe to walk to restaurants in the evening or is it better to drive?
My Response: I have never felt unsafe anywhere on the Island. We
walk and ride bikes everywhere. Of course at night we tend to walk
more than bike but there is a nice Marina area right on the other side
from the HHI resort. We stroll through there many times and stop at
the little shops or enjoy the outdoor entertainment.

5. Is there enough activities for adults?
My Response: You can do as much or as little as you want to! Gotta
love that!!!

6. For those who have taken a trip to Savannah, do you take the trolley tour?
My Response: Sorry have never taken the trip to Savannah. I can't
pull myself off of the Island once I get there...love it too much!

7. Do the studios have balconies also?
My Response: Yes all room types have balconies.

Again this is just my two cents on HHI but trust me I am a true HHI lover. It is because of HHI that I bought into DVC to begin with...so hopefully that says something. Most of all....enjoy yourself and relax!:beach:

I have a couple of HHI questions (I OP does not mind if I hog the thread for a sec). :flower3:

How is HHi over New Years weather wise? Thinking of going in 2009/2010.

My home resort is AKV, what are my chances on getting a 2 bedroom in the 7 month booking for Dec 2009?

Thanks! and sorry for changing the questions.

We have been been there for xmas to New Years week 3 times and really love the resort at that time. the weather has ranged from 30-40 degrees with hat and gloves to 60's and ds swimming in heated pool at the resort, you can never really tell. there are more 2 bedrooms so getting one at 7 months is possible (we did it the first time at 7 month). There are many activities for adults and kids at the resort, out door and indoor. The beach is beautiful to walk any time! Post xmas shopping bargains are great and dining on HHI is wonderful(we have many favorites), but last time we were there for NYE we were on our way back from WDW so we stayed in, bought muchies, watched football and the ball drop and even made a great meal in our kitchen...very relaxing and fun. We will continue to go at this time for all of the above reasons.

One thing about walking at night on the Island is that due to strict zoning there are hardly any streetlights on the main road and no bright neon signs from stores/restaurants to provide light. This makes the Island very dark, so the safety issue with walking at night is the risk of having an incident with a car.

We did a trolley tour in Savannah last year and thought it was worth the money (it was around $10-15 per person. There are others that were much more expensive but I couldn't figure out what they offerred for the extra money, so we did the least expensive one). It provided a nice overview of the downtown area of the City, which was valuable when we walked around on our own the next day.

All of the nature walks are great events that adults can enjoy, if you're into that. For an additional cost, you can do fishing and dolphin watching excursions - we've never done those. The various B'Lou Crabbe shows could also be fun for adults - I'm not a big fan of his, but my wife is.

We have gone during the summer. This past June and had no bug problems even in the evening and last year in August and did have mild mosquito problems in the evening.

I think spring or fall would be very nice to explore all the island has to offer and it has ALOT to offer. My parents came down with us this time and were going to go to Savannah b/c they weren't sure how much time they could just spend on this "beach island" as they are not beach people. :rolleyes1 Ha, they loved it and found so much to do they never made it over to Savannah and even stayed an extra night!!!

As far as night time walking, we often walk over to the marina that is right across the way from the resort for dining, shopping and entertainment. It is a very safe and easy stroll.

We love HHI and are planning a return next June!

We have been to HHI in Feb, July, and August with no bug problems whatsoever. I also would not recommend walking to restaurants unless they are the ones at the marina. The main road there in HHI is a 4 lane and can be a busy road depending on when you go. Also, things are pretty spread out on the island and organized into plantations.(like neighborhoods) You would miss out on some great dining if you didn't use your car. Basically, you can walk to some but drive to most. We are still discovering great places to dine.

We generally visit HH in early to mid October and the weather is usually perfect. Warm enough for swimming/biking, but not too hot. We've never had a problem with bugs that time of year. I've done a trolley tour of Savannah before and it was very nice and informative. We didn't have a reservation for a tour but walked up to the trolley hub and one was leaving in a few minutes and they actually gave us a lower price than advertised to get us on the trolley! We've always had a car at HH so we drive to eat at different places around the island, but we also walk over to Shelter Cove and eat there and have never had a problem with safety. We love HH as much as WDW - it's a different vacation, but I happen to love laid back and relaxing vacations!

Thanks for the info on HHI at Christmas - we will be there this year for Christmas week & I am really looking forward to it! :santa:

Thank you all for the great questions and info!!

Our first stay was over Mem. Day and we loved it! The weather was beautiful and we were amazed at the lack of bugs, being so close to the marsh I thought the place would be swarming!

We go to WDW every Christmas for 2 weeks. This year we are doing the repo cruise and I had to cancel to use points at GCH. I had enough points left over to book HHI in a 2 bedroom for 2 weeks over Christmas/NYE.

We know it will be cooler, but we love to get away and the 2 bed will be nice! Will we be bored out of our minds? We plan on renting bikes and relaxing alot. I love the huge balconies and can get some reading and net surfing done. I know it will be great, but just a little apprehensive giving up our SSR NYE party for the 5th year in a row!

Im even thinking of a Christmas tree exchange for HHI this year!:santa:

Thank you all for your info. I really want to take a trip to HHI. These boards are great! Everyone is sooo helpful. Now, I have to sit DH down and have him read this. If anyone else can add anything I sure would appreciate it. I need all the ammo I can get. :)
