HHI ownership question

I have been studying here for quite a while and we are really close to pulling the trigger, so to speak. We have started the search for a good resale contract. We would primarily be interested in visiting HHI annually so it seems that owning there would be our best choice. My strategy would be to occassionally, every 3-4 years, possibly stay at another WDW DVC resort but visit HHI annually.

I am not sure how hard it is to do at the 7 month window but assume that since the majority of DVC resorts are in Orlando, it wouldn't be too difficult as long as we were flexible.

Does this sound like a logical strategy? Are there any pitfalls that any of you can see to my theory?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice you have to offer. I am still in the learning phase!;)

We totally agree with you.

My guess is at 7 months you could probably get a room in one of the resorts. We like the BW so we did buy a small contract for it, and we are now waiting for a small contract to clear for Vero Beach.

We have also always thought that we could trade our 11 month booking window for HHI to someone else for there 11 month window at there resort say AKV in the future.

Good luck with your decision.

If you plan to primarily use the points at HH, you should be fine. HH in the summer months (and at Thanksgiving and at Spring Break) will find the Home Resort status a good value.

Depending on when you plan to go to WDW, you should have good succes at 7 months unless you need a GV, BW view or one of the other more popular villa types.

Enjoy!

(We are at HH right now :) .)

HHI is our favorite vacation spot. We have other ts properties that we use to trade with II when we want to go someplace else or when we travel with our kids. We are almost to the point where we will be mostly traveling off peak.

I am so jealous! How is the weather there? How crowded is March?

It really depends on when you'll go to HH and what you'll be happy with at WDW. If you go to HH summer and will be happy at SSR & OKW for WDW, and won't rent your points, owning HH is your best choice in all likelihood. For any other situation you'd likely be better off owning at WDW.

if you want at HHI regularly in summer, buy it. If you book at 7 mths, you can get SSR and OKW, and usually a sampling of other resorts.
On the other hand, if you buy at WDW, and want to get into HHI during summer, that is more difficult and many have to wait list, even at 7 months out.

Thanks guys! Now I wait some more to see if option #1 goes as we expect. The longer the ROFR process goes, the less I think it will go. Our agent felt we would hear within a week. We are now entering week #3. Meanwhile, I will keep my eyes open for a contract that will suit our needs.

Weekends are pretty busy in March - the weekdays were light last week and will also be this week - BUT - the next couple of weeks the resort is filled (Easter) and also into April it is very busy.

We spoke with Chef Gordon yesterday and he is on the "short list" for the opening staff for Hawaii (2011). We'd sure miss him at HH, but also wish the best for him! :)

We would be most likely traveling Feb or March and would stay Sunday and leave Saturday to save to points cost of a Sat night stay so it sounds like we would experience some decrease in the crowds.
