Just booked our first trip to HHI during DS's spring break(3/10-3/15). I know that the ocean will still be quite cold, but what activities would anyone recommend? DS will be 6.

TIA

We did kayaking this past March and had a lot of fun doing it. They are double kayaks so your son would have to go with an adult. It's milder weather than the summer months, which IMO, would be way too hot to be doing the kayaks.

Bring or buy a kite to fly on the beach. There is a kite store in Caligny Plaza which sells the easy flier kites. My kids love going out to the beach pre-sunset.

We love the rent bikes. HH is very bike friendly with a lot of paths all over the island. You can bike as far as you like. We love to ride over to Cold Stone Creamery.

In March we were in need of bug spray at Hilton Head. Be sure and bring it along and apply it liberally. The no-see-ums, or sand flies, were terrible.

My kids wouldn't swim in the pools, because they were cold, but my DS7 enjoyed swimming in the hot tub. As no one else was brave enough to get in it, it was the perfect size for just him.

ETA: The crab may not be biting yet for the season, but if you have a fishing pole, you can try to fish off the pier at the resort. My kids were able to catch a couple of small fish there this past spring.

Have fun!

I'm afraid I can't help with a building or view. We get a 1 BR and always end up in the main lodge. But miniature golf is lots of fun then.

We have stayed in several and never been disappointed. Whichever we are in at the time becomes our favorite.

I am partial to the villas with a clear view of the creek from the balcony, I believe they are 31 & 29. I enjoy sitting on the picnic table, watching the boats come and go. While I love the rocking chairs, the design of the balcony with them puts the railing right at my vision line, which is why I sit on the picnic table to see.

One year, my DS (maybe 7) was just old enough to venture off on his own on the bike and we had a villa where the balcony faced the inside walking path. He didn't know it at the time, but it gave me a perfect view of his freedom. ;)

We also had one with a wooded view which was very nice. Same DS as above was into bird watching that year, and the trees provided just what he was looking for, along with a snake slithering in the leaves.

The one view that we personally would not care for would be of the pool. Not that the crowds and lights would bother us, it would be the constant request to go swimming by our DS7. :rolleyes1

I'm sure which ever villa you get will be great! :thumbsup2
