Does anyone have any experience with HHI in July? Is it difficult to get a room? I am looking for 3 or 4 nights during the week.
Any information about weather, activities, etc would be greatly appreciated. Being a New Englander, I am very regional (WDW excluded), so I know nothing about the Carolinas.

We'll be there in July for the 4th year straight. It's our favorite vacaton spot -- even over WDW.

I would call as soon as you can to book your reservation. We are already into the 7 month window for July. Studios and 1 bedroom are limited -- the resort is mostly made up of 2 bedroom units. DVC is on an island -- 15 acres in size which I believe 3 of those need to remain wetlands. The resort is not huge and it's an easy walk anywhere you want to go at the resort.

Our kids love the pool and the beach (3 & 9). We rent bikes and ride back and forth to the beach (about a mile away). The beach is clean and the waves are nice for the kids to play in. There is also a pool at the beach house as well as the resort itself.

Our kids love all the activities the resort schedules as well as crab fishing off the pier. Last summer, DS9 caught a turtle in his crab net which was much more than he expected (but the highlight of his trip :D ). We love the dolphin cruise/beach combing also. While it's at an additional cost, we have found it to be worth the money spent. The weather has always been hot and humid. Humid to the point of you walk outside and are instantly damp. Makes cooling off in the pool or ocean all the better.

We keep telling ourselves it won't be long before July is here. With two trips scheduled to WDW between now and then, it's the trip to HH that we get most excited about.:sunny: :teeth:

cgcw,

how do you book the dolphin/beach thing? Do you do it once you get there or in advance? If advanced, how far?

Pretty much like going to Orlando weather wise. It will be hot :sunny: with a 50/50 chance of thunderstorms every afternoon from May through September.

Scott Henry, Low Country Touring, now runs the dolphin tours for Disney (once again.....a good choice on Disney's part, IMHO :D ). The tours can be arranged through the recreation window at the resort.

Last summer we booked directly with Scott prior to arriving in HH (this was before Scott went back to doing the tours for Disney again). We will probably give him a call closer to the time we get there just to make sure he's still doing the beach combing. Scott's web site with info -- www.lowcountrynaturetours.com if your interested in taking a look.

Is Chef Gordon still doing the private affair? We did it in August and it was fabulous.

Indeed he is! We have ours booked for our March trip and cannot wait. We are doing it on my husband's birthday, it will be our third time doing "A Private Affair". I'm making his famous crab cakes over New Years!

Can someone please tell me about Chef Gordon't private affairs? Thanks

"A Private Affair" is a gourmet dining experience prepared and served at the Beach House for your party. It was previously offered in one of the GV's but has now moved to the Beach House. The menu is typical "low country" cuisine, but Gordon will gladly prepare anything you'd enjoy. He is a delight to be around and is an excellent host.

We've enjoyed the experience the last three years and are setting up another reservation for our trip next summer.

Here is a thread from last winter with the details about <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=322182">A Private Affair."</a>

Enjoy!

MikeBW,

We vacationed at HH last July and LOVED it! We reserved a 2BR and Studio at 7 months. Our kids really enjoyed all the activities!

The beach was very different from what we are use to in the Mid-Atlantic area. The MD and Delaware beaches have larger waves and they break close to the shore. At HH, the waves were VERY small. It is very shallow for a LONG way. Our 5 year old twins loved swimming in the ocean because it was so calm. Our 10 year old daughter would have been disappointed in the waves, but she had broken her arm and was not allowed in the ocean. She had a waterproof cast that was allowed in the pools.

Some of our highlights were:
1) Pool party at night
2) Dolphin cruise
3) DD went to the kid's movie night
4) Campfire twice
5) Shadow the dog
6) Kids loved the pool slide

The kids really want to go back. We are hoping to go Summer '05.

Do I call the resort to book this?
I would love to try this during our trip this June.
