1. We booked a studio any suggestions for a better area to stay in?

2. Besides relaxing a bit, we are looking for different areas to look at when we retire any suggestions?

3. Since we're going in December are all the restaurants open in the HH area or are a lot of them closed
That time of year?

Thanks for any info you can give

I've only spent 1 night at HHI in December 2 years ago, around December 3, I think it was pretty quiet. We found a restaurant in the Shelter Cove area to eat, it was delicious, but there were not of other diners.

This year, we'll be there the weekend after Thanksgiving, and we'll have more time to look outside the immediate area. I will take note and maybe ask some of the restaurants what their December hours are. We're meeting up with Simba's Mom who always goes to HHI for Thanksgiving.

As far as studio locations, odds are that you'll be in the Main Lodge. That's our favorite area anyways. There are 21 studios at the resort, 16 of which are in the Main Lodge or attached building 12, the other 5, 1 each, in buildings 16, 18, 19, 28, and 30. The view from building 18, of the marsh, is gorgeous. However, all studios outside the main lodge are on the first floor, so you're risking loud footsteps above you. Also, the main lodge is the only building with an elevator, which is a real plus for lugging in groceries (or in DH's case, golf clubs!)
Whoops, I just noticed you asked about restaurant hours. Some restaurants have winter hours-that means they stop serving lunch or they just have overall fewer hours in the winter. There MAY be a couple restaurants on the island that close down, but that would probably be in January. I'm afraid I can't help with the retirement question. We thought a lot, then decided the resort is a BIG reason for our love of HHI, so we just made sure we have enough points there for winter visits.
