I know the resort offers Kayak tours, I went on two last summer and it really brought me back to my childhood. I loved tooling around in those things... Canoes too..... I would love to be able to go out as the mood hits me.... posibly renting a canoe so I can take both my girls out at the same time.

Do they allow launching your own (rented elsewhere) boats from their launch? Could I store it there or do I have to drag the beast back to the villa...

AND any recomendations of a good place to rent a canoe?

Thanks.

I agree, spending time out in the bay is wonderful. Our kids love it too. It's also the best way to see the wildlife. You can't beat the shrimp actually jumping into your boat as you paddle along!

I imagine the resort staff would let you launch a canoe or kayak from their 'beach' and throw a lock around it up against the fence or the rack, but you'd have to call the resort to check. (843-341-4100)

If you were renting down their you may need to pick it up somewhere, thus have a rack on your roof. Then you could simply throw it back on your car roof after each trip out. You are right, you don't want to schlep it back to the villa. In fact I think the staff would find that a worse alternative.

Not sure where you can rent, but the Low Country Adventure guides, the ones who run the dolphin cruises, are a great resource. Call Capt Scott at 843-683-0187. He'll know where you can rent for the week. I also know that HHI was building a new public access launch site last summer, south of the resort, though down near the mouth of the bay, near more commerical traffic and not very suitable for kayakers.

Let us know what you discover. I'll probably be planning the same thing someday.
