Most photos I've seen of HHI beaches look wide open with not many chairs on the beach. What is the situation as far as beach chairs/umbrellas for the beach? Are they available at the Beach House (for rental I assume). Do people bring their own beach equipment on the shuttle and is the cost of rental worth packing these extra items in an already tight vehicle? Can I assume there are towels available for use for both beach and pool or do we need to pack beach towels?

Also, do members bring their own coolers for snacks/beverages to the Beach House, or do most tend to use the concession stand?

You can bring your own stuff or rent. Here is the company that is setup on the beach http://www.shorebeach.com/index.php/rentals. There are towels available but we brought our own since they are bigger and we have the washer/dryer available. You can bring your own snacks/beverages.

We drove and brought our own beach / sand chairs, umbrella and small rolling cooler for use on the beach. I made sandwiches in the mornings and brought them to the beach in the cooler. My son and I both got the refillable cups and used the drink refill station at the beach house concession area for drinks. There are LARGE umbrellas for rent on the beach I think but we didn't investigate as we had a decent one of our own. We also brought a couple of boogie boards but there really weren't a lot of waves to ride there. The water was very calm - they were a waste of time & space for us. I can't remember what we did about beach towels (if we brought our own or used the ones from the pool). I think we brought at least one large beach size towel for each of us. If your trunk space is tight maybe you could get one of those softside rooftop car carriers to use? You can get them fairly cheap (under $50) from most auto parts stores (think Pep Boys).

We brought our own chairs, towels and such. If I remember right the rental items were only available to rent during certain hours and there was a couple days when we hit the beach later in the afternoon and they were already packed up and gone so we wouldn't have been able to rent anything.
I'm pretty sure there are towels for the pool use, but we brought our own beach towels so they would be larger.
As far as boogie boards/toys we grabbed a couple of cheap ones from the nearby Kroeger and the kids used them during the trip and then we gifted what we didn't want to drag home to a family coming in on our last day.

Thank you all for your input. It's just DH and myself for 4 nights after a weekend wedding in Charleston. Not even sure we would hit the actual beach everyday. Will need to give it some thought as it gets closer to packing. Thanks again.:thumbsup2
