I am SO excited that my family will be visiting HHI for the first time ever this Thanksgiving!!! I am doing my due diligence with regards to room requests, weather expectations, etc, but am wondering if there are any pros on here who are willing to share their experiences with this resort over the holiday? I am open to all comments and suggestions!

I do have one specific question: Will there be any restaurants open on Thanksgiving? We do not want to cook in the room and do not want a traditional turkey meal. I know, we're crazy. But we are truly escaping the madness and are going rogue! Lol. I have no idea how to even begin looking for that kind of thing? If I call the hotel directly would they have that information?

Can't even believe my good fortune in snagging this resort.

Thank you for any and all input here!

Truly good fortune! We've gone to HHI every Thanksgiving for the last 12 years (this year's the 13th). Last year was in doubt-I fractured my pelvis a week before the trip. But I can still remember lying in the Hospital's Emergency Ward, begging the doctor to let me go. I tell you to let you know how wonderful and addictive Thanksgiving at HHI is. Several restaurants are open on Thanksgiving-as time gets closer, they'll list their times and menus. A few "regulars" (Hello, Kristen) bring their meal with them, and make a trip to Kroger to supplement it. Some of us order a precooked meal-about 3-4 places offer those. The resort will send out a sheet of various offers about a month in advance. You might be interested in the traditional touch football game on the beach with the recreation CMs. There's usually an activity a few days in advance to make your team shirts (Team Turkey and Team Gravy). If anyone in your family is a runner, there's the Island Rec Center's 5K and 10K on Thanksgiving morning.
Weather is very variable. We've been when it was icy, rainy/sleety. We've had other years in the 80s. All good, though!

What's cute is that some of the boats in the marina are decorated for Christmas-makes for a nice stroll in the evening.

We've been to HHI numerous times, Thanksgiving is amazing weather, little cool and night perfect during the day! We always go to our favorite restaurant Frankie Bones, https://www.frankieboneshhi.com/menu/#dinner! Def need reservations at all times! It's a throw back to frank Sinatra and dean Martin days atmosphere! Very family oriented and service is excellent! They do serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner but I believe the regular menu is available also, this was 2 yrs ago so call and check!

To be honest after staying at the DVC HH we found out we could rent a bigger unit, went from a 2 br to 3 br for a lot less money! (When u convert ooints to cash). We stay in the Palmetto Dunes area across the main road 278, from Shelter Cover and much closer to beach! There is a great area across the st from u and many nice restaurants across the water! Must do a dolphin tour also and pu from across the street from u also!

Rent bikes, cross over main road from DVC to Palmetto Dunes stop at General Store, Disneys beach and just enjoy the scenery! Here's one of the many web sites, https://www.hiltonheadisland.org/! Also search FB for pages for info on the Island! Message me if u have any other questions! Here's a map, https://www.hiltonheadisland.org/

Just to let you know, I googled "Where to eat on hilton head island for Thanksgiving", and about 15 restaurants came up.

Thank you for this scoop! It sounds like just what we're looking for! To make sure I understand you correctly, are you saying that we will receive something in the mail from the resort about the Thanksgiving Holiday? In this day and age it seems like a total luxury! Lol

Additionally, I had already done the general googling of where to eat on Thanksgiving. Super happy to know we have options! The one thing I wasn't clear about for most of those options was whether or not they served "Thanksgiving food" or their regular menu. Hopefully this might become clearer as we get closer.

Perhaps our paths will cross this year! Thanks again!
