HHI at Christmas?

Anyone ever been?

And how far to drive from HHI to WDW?
5 or 6 hours - with good traffic??

We have been to HHI for xmas week 3 times and 3 times just for an overnite on our way back after xmas at disney. It is about 5-6 hours from wdw. The resort has alot of activities going on during the week and stuff for adults and children of all ages. My ds has been in the pool when it was about 60's outside , but we adults did not swim then(only in the summer and spring).Beach is fantastic to walk any time.. lots of shopping and great restaurants. We also like cooking and just relaxing! We had to add on to HHI because we love it any time of year.

We have been a Disney family for years. This New Years we stayed at Hilton Head with our boys.
It is a pretty resort and I must say that Hilton Head Island is quite appealing.
Saying that I must be honest.
The resort is stuck amidst a hundred other resorts and buisness's. It has no Disney feel to it in my humble opinion. You feel as if you are in a large shopping mall with traffic everywhere.
The grounds are pretty and if you go to the tip of the Island it is quite charming. The area around Disney is too busy. One buisness and resort on top of the next.
I am sure Disney puts its best foot forward to bring some holiday cheer but it is the only Disney resort we have stayed at that does little for me.

We're thinking of driving down for Christmas as far as HHI, spend Christmas there, and head for WDW the first week of January.

Friends who've been to HHI area told us much the same thing, very "resort/touristy heavy", and of course it would be - it's Hilton Head! LOL!

...which is why we thought to get a little of that "Christmas at Disney" feel, that would be a good resort choice for us...and maybe just a *little* quieter than peak season in the summer, or trying to get to a WDWPark on christmas day.
