HHI 1 Bedroom Recommendations?

Hi there,

We have ended up with ressies for a 1 bedroom unit for the first week in June at HH. Does anyone have suggestions for what I would want to request? I've read a few posts about the units under Gv's being noisy so I think I'd want to request Buildings 11 or 12 right? Anyone have a room they loved and a room number to share? We would prefer non smoking - are most of the units n/s? Do I need to request a non HCA room to get a shower for little kids (2 and 6)? And are marsh views the best?

Can I fax room requests to the resort? Or give them a call directly?

Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. This is our first experience at a DVC resort (non-members) and I want to "sell" my DH on DVC!

The first week of June is a great time to go to HH the weather is usually warm but not as humid as later in summer. Also Hilton Head Island dosn't seem to get real crowded until after the 2nd full week of June. The 1bdr does limit your room locations you will either be under a 3bdr unit or in the main lodge building which is more like a hotel. Most rooms from the main building overlook the marsh. Parking is underneath the lodge and you have an elevator. We have stayed in the 1bdrm in building 18 it was a very good central location with a marsh view. We were fortunate not to have any problem with room noise from above. Their are many activities for the kids, if you get a chance to go to any of Chef Gordons cooking classes or other events try to attend he always makes anything he is involved with special.

Do I need to request a non HCA room to get a shower for little kids (2 and 6)?

Our HCA 1 BR Lodge Villa at HHI included both tub and roll-in shower. Do all?

Bojo, what was the room # of that HCA villa?
Last year we were in #1137 (NOT HCA), top floor main lodge-balcony was nice and private, view of marsh off to the right. The one that looks nicest to me is right across the hall, overlooking the inlet. There are some beautiful pictures of it on Tommy's HH website, including the dolphins you can see from your balcony. Next year we hope to get either #1137 again or that one across the hall. I'll bet Tommy could tell you that room #.

We have stayed in the main building on the 3rd floor and it was quiet and convenient. Last July we were in the very last building at the mouth of the entrance to shelter cove (33, I think). We watched dolphins every morning from our porch! we also watched the kayakers and the boaters leaving. We also had a front row view of the barge where the fireworks go off! It was a short walk to main pool and a nice stroll to main lobby. Will try for the same for July 2004!

That sounds really nice. Was this a 1 Bedroom? I didn't think there were any 1 BRs in buildings higher than #28. But I'd love to know where it was.

Last July, we stayed in building 30 in a 1 bedroom. It's located at the far end of the resort by the circle parking area. We were on the 1st floor (although it's up 1 flight of stairs, strange to think of it as the 1st floor and not ground level). We were underneath a grand villa and didn't have any problem with noise from above.

In March, we were in 1127 (non-smoking) in the lodge. It was great - had a nice marsh view off to the right. It was on a corner (end of the building) and was very quiet.

Thanks very much for the room numbers and replies! I can't wait to go - it just sounds so nice and relaxing. So the outer buildings have 3 floors right although all "up"? How many floors are in the lodge buildings? When you say the lodge/main buildings there are more like a hotel - do you mean with a lobby, that kind of thing, the way it's laid out? I've got to look at those pictures that were mentioned.

I would love to be able to see dophins from our room! That must have been so incredible.

I'm hoping to find something for each member of our family to enjoy. I've read many good things about Chef Gordon so definitely will try to do something there.

I'm assuming there is a kiddie pool at the resort - is there one at the beach house?

The beach house pool does not have a kiddie pool. There is an area which has something similar to a sprinkler. They do have a nice wide area of stairs going into the pool -- probably about 3' once your off the stairs. There is a kiddie pool by the pool at the resort.

Our family loves to ride bikes back and forth from the resort to the beach. My boys like to hunt for the little crabs that are around during low tide. The resort will let you use a pair of rubber boots to walk around in the muck. My DS3 still talks about how last year he got stuck in the muck and Daddy had to pull him out and his boots got stuck. My DS8 loves to crab fish off the pier at the resort. DH & I enjoy the laid back, relaxed environment. I even find time to read a book or two.....and, because our kids are little, we find it's easier to cook our dinners instead of going out, NOT something I usually look forward to at home.

There are a lot of scheduled activities at the resort. I'm sure it won't be a problem finding something special for your family.

I'm not sure what you mean by the outer buildings having 3 floors. The ground level is where the trash is stored and enclosed by way of lattice work. It's a flight of stairs up to the 1st floor villas and another flight up to the 2nd floor. I'm assuming the grand villas have another flight of stairs inside of them. HTH

Hi cgcw Thanks for the info. That just goes to show what a rookie I am, I thought I had read that there are 3 floors of units in the outer buildings. Are there three floors of rooms in the main buildings? Maybe I got it backwards?

My two year old will enjoy a sprinkler at the beach house. Can you bring your own tubes, floats? I think we'll cook most of our meals ourselves also, it is easier with small children really. We just want to relax and spend some "quality time" together. DH has been working many hours and going to school at night so it's time for a break!

Bojo, what was the room # of that HCA villa?

Mom, I rhink it was 1113 - not sure. It was straight through the lobby and on the left. Marsh view, with a bit of Broad Creek thrown in. (It rained most of the time we were there, so we didn't spend a lot of time on the balcony.)

We were in building 31 at the end of the circle. Loved the location and loved watching the dolphins in the morning. We did have a one bed room there and would return in a heart beat. When we checked in the CM said"wow, you folks have the best room at the resort". We definitely agree! We have also enjoyed the main builing(11) and 13 is very quiet and secluded behind the main lobby building. Just love this resort!

About the sprinkler, last time I was there, (last sept.) they were digging up the sprinkler and a cm said they were removing it. I know that cm's do not always have right info, but the "big beach balls" were gone and the soft foam was gone and they had roped off the big hole that was left. I hope it is still there and they were just fixing it.
