We go to Myrtle beach once or twice every year, but as new members of DVC, I'm tempted to try out HH- never been there. I'm wondering if my DD14 would find things to do - she loves the action at Myrtle (water parks, shopping, etc.), but it sounds like HH is beautiful, and would be a little more relaxing for DH and I. Anyone with teens care to comment? Do you think there's any chance we could get a studio or 1 BR this August?

My children love it a HH. My son, 13 and daughter 8 loved it. There are so many activities for them to do. Also there is plenty of shopping. I'm not sure about the water parks though, my two aren't into them too much yet. They are happy with the pool at the resort. Just remember, the beach is about a mile away from the resort, however, there is a bike trail to ride there. There is a beach house with restrooms, a restarurant and a pool there. The beach is nice and wide. We are going to Disney this summer, but we plan on making HH our main vacation next summer. Enjoy!

Having just been up to Myrtle Beach to visit the La Plage swimwear store I'd have to say if your teen loves Myrtle Beach she will find Hilton Head very very...very different. It does NOT have all that glitzy high energy overbuilt neon feel to it at all.

I wouldn't exactly call HHI a natural beach area but compared to Myrtle it definitely is. So if she likes outdoor activities like bike riding, nature walks, fishing and so forth she'll enjoy HHI. If not then I would say she's a kid and its good for her to experience new things.

I would say that your chances of getting a studio or 1BR for August are probably not good; there are only 21 of each at the resort. You might have a better chance for a 2BR, but you might still have to go on a waitlist. If you can stand not knowing for sure, I'd recommend that, since you very well may clear between now and August.

My kids have always loved HH. They're late teens/early 20s now and still like going there!!

I am from Charleston,SC, so live right between Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head and have been to both many, many times throughout my life, and I would pick HH hands down over MB. While my children aren't yet teenagers, I have been a teen at both those places, and there is plenty to do at HH, and it is so much more appealing and beautiful. . I personally find MB to be rather tacky. You will find pleny of info. about HH if you do a little research and I'm sure you and your teen would love it there for a change from MB.

Thanks for the advice - I called and there's no availability in August for a 1br or studio - I guess I'll call back and waitlist - or maybe try for next spring at HH - looks like it will be difficult to get a ressie there in the summer - even at the 7 month mark, I suspect.

We have been to HH several times, winter and summer, from the time my kids were young teens to now late teens. They love it. HH has events for teens including supervised visits to the movies to give you a night out. They made friends their own age which does not always happen at OC. They loved the freedom of the pool and the bikes to get around. It was great to have a place that we could do things together, and we did, and let them have a little more freedom to be on their own. We were there on New Year's Eve and they had a teen party at the Beach House. We were supposed to go over the 4th of July last year. I was missing one night after wait listing and chickened out since I could not get it for cash either. We went to another beach but did not have as much fun. :thumbsup2
